Ok my current system still runs all the current games very well, but the start up could be faster and some map loading could also be faster. I am looking to upgrade before the upcoming Battlefield 3 is released. I am thinking that my Graphics card may be ok so I think I will concentrate on getting an SSD for OS and main games and maybe a new processor and Mobo. Any advice is welcome. Current system spec is below and link to previous build log is here Budget: €700 Main uses of intended build: Gaming 80%, Music 10%, browsing, burning etc..10% Parts required: SSD for OS, Processor, Mobo, Memory, Power Current system build information : Case: Corsair 800D OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Processor: Q6600 2.4 running at 3.6 on water Mobo: Asus P5Q Deluxe Memory: 4GB Crucial Ballistix Graphic: Zotac 1.5GB 470 GTX Power: OCZ 600W Sound: Onboard + 5.1 Logitech speakers Monitor: LG Flatron Monitor resolution:1920 x 1080 Storage requirements:Currently have 4TB (4 x 1 TB F1 Samsung) for storage for all of my ISO, Movies, and Music, and 180GB HDD maxtor for booting. Will you be overclocking: yes of course Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): A few fans 3 or 4, the usual plus maybe USB3 as well. Extra information about desired system: I will be using my existing water setup on the new processor so will not be changing that. I expect that the new processor should be ok with the existing XSPC main block. So I am new to the world of SSD and have read the articles on the PC Hardware buying guide but what do you guys recommend from your experience? Same goes for Processor+Mobo+RAM
I've moved from a Q6600 setup not long ago. Went with a 2600k sandybridge setup and haven't looked back since. Overclockers do some decent bundles for around £500 which would get your mobo, CPU and ram sorted. I took £250 for my existing board, CPU and ram so was pretty happy. Depends now much your wanting to go with a ssd as they can take a chuck of the budget depending on size. Vertex 2 drives might be a good ssd range to go for as the vertex 3 is out now so I expect prices of the older ones might lower a little. I got. 60gb vertex 2 in my laptop and it's great
Just took a look at your spec. I sold my P5Q for over £100 on eBay so you should get £200+ For reference my system is a 2600k, MSI P67A-GD55 and corsair xma3 ram. Overclocks pretty easy sine you so your looking to have a play
No need for a 2600k, 2500k would suffice more than enough, after much research its what ive just ordered. Unless your encoding then the 2500k will do, and be a little beast ! Rough spec ide look at would be.. 2500k Asus p8p67 mobo (i went for the EVO) 8GB corsair 1600mhz (Cheap enough to justify the size) SSD what size are you after ? Ive been reading reviews lately as i was looking at a second, i bought my gen2 80gb intel when they came out, best thing ive bought for the pc i think !
Thanks for advice guys, for the SSD I'll be looking at maybe a 60 or 80 GB just enough for OS and 1 or 2 games. When you say 2500k and 2600k do you mean i5 or i7?
