    I've got a Sapphire/ATI 256mb 256bit 9800pro in the post, but right now I've got an MSI Ti4200 64mb in this machine. I've got my old matrox G400 dualhead in my file server, and my oldschool Orchid Righteous 3DFX Voodoo 1 is lying about somewhere. the only other card I've owned is a matrox mystique, which is now in my parents clapped out old PC they never use.. I'm sure they've only still got it so they can say 'we have a PC' without lying...

    :naughty: Yikes! The 9800Pro is quite close to its full potential but the 9500Pro and 9600Pro have acres of potential headroom in them, I think you'll be surprised how close to the 9800Pro they can actually get. Well worth o/c'ing them. Raise the RAM 5mhz at a time running 3Dmark2001 and/or 03 to ensure it's really stable, when you hit the max back off around 10mhz then repeat for the core. 9600Pro=400/600 expected o/c=550/640 (9600XT=500/600), 9500Pro=275/540 expected o/c=360/620.

    9500Pro =275/540 8pipes 128bitDDR 2200Mp/s 8.64GB/s
    9500Pro @360/620 8pipes 128bitDDR 2900Mp/s 9.92GB/s
    9600Pro =400/600 4pipes 128bitDDR 1600Mp/s 9.60GB/s
    9600Pro @550/640 4pipes 128bitDDR 2200Mp/s 10.24GB/s
    9800std =325/580 8pipes 256bitDDR 2600Mp/s 18.56GB/s
    9800Pro =380/680 8pipes 256bitDDR 3040Mp/s 21.76GB/s

    This little poll made me realize that I haven't got any ATI cards sitting around. Plenty of Nvidia to choose from around my house:

    Geforce 3 Ti 200 (was my main card up until a month or so ago)
    Geforce MX440
    Geforce FX5200
    and a
    Geforce 6800 GT (which is a beastly card that I really ought to sit down and overclock)

    Every time I sit down to buy a new video card, I seriously look at the ATI cards, but for one reason or another I always end up with Nvidia.

    Odd that.

    later,
    Perp

    Wish I had that kind of money laying around. I just spent $340 on that 6800 GT. I would've got the X800, but they're about as hard to find as an albino elephant at the moment. And we had the 6800 GTs in stock at the Fry's where I work so my will just sort of wore out.

    I'd, of course, take a spare card of the ATI flavor off somebody's hands if they cared to part with it :naughty:

    hehe, if I can scrap together the cash to upgrade from this FX5200 (currently it's in my Shuttle) I'd have no problem getting an ATI card.

    laterz, Perp

    your lucky up here in the great white north 6800 based cards are around $899 and the x800 series start at $599.

    these are all prices in candian funds.

    at first i think this sucks. but then i remember 2 things about canada.

    My P4 has an AIW 9600pro
    My AMD has an MX-420 :waah:
    I want an x800xt-pe for the P4, then the AIW to the AMD system. The MX420 can become a frisbee or target or something. Luckily I know some PR guys at most of the ATI AIB partners so I actually have half a chance of finding one :thumb: Affording, not so much though.
