As its a freelance, rather than a full-time position there isn't a closing date. However, as with any job the sooner we can fill the position the better.

Is it only 300 words because this is a different position than the last one, or are you just getting desperate? :p

Probably because 300 words is the average news item on Bit-Tech, so no need to request 5000 words as it cannot be published as news item anyway :D

Too bad I am probably not allowed to apply because I represent specific manufacturers so conflicts of interest are possible

Different position. This writer won't be doing long copy or reviews.

What is the salary for this position? And is it a full-time position? What are the hours per week?

    This IS exciting.
I hope I still have some grasp of the English language and can put together something interesting and witty to amaze the mighty Mr Gorbald. Expect my submission shortly!

Actually, nobody at Custom PC or Bit-tech studied journalism, so don't expect that qualification to make a blind bit of difference.

Er, a measured approach to lively discussions is surely a plus point? :S

Also, we'd rather deal with just one person for one thing (ie, all news posts) as that means we only need to give feedback once, only need to train one person in the CMS (backend system) and so on.

Could you please give more detail on the job: the number of news items a day that needs to be written (at least approximately, say 3-4 or 9-10 ?) and the source for those news items (i.e., will you provide a topic and say "Write a news item on this!", or the freelancer can choose the topics himself?) I guess this is very important information to know if it's worth to apply or not...

We aim to publish 2-4 news stories a day between bit-tech and bit-gamer, of which we'd want at least 2 to be written by the news writer.

As it says in the news story, its a freelance position that you can do from home, so how long it takes depends on how fast you work.

Great opportunity, something I'd have considered myself if I had a greater interest in researching hardware (my focus is on gaming and development). I work as a freelance game dev on and off right now and it's great, I even took a night job at a hotel so I could combine my main work with it. Good luck to those that apply.

I hope "knowledge of console gaming" is not part of the required attributes of a potential future writer. Glad to see it's, at least, not mentioned despite the increasing number of console games we see reviewed here..
