It would be interesting to know how comonent sales are doing compared to this. Am I correct in assuming these figures are for full, ready built systems?

I have a theory that a lot of people who upgraded to the initial Quad Core's are quite happy with their PC' performance at the moment.

Core i7 is not that much faster but a hell of a lot more expensive when you consider you need a new motherboard, ram, cpu and cpu heatsink.

I think a lot of people are also holding off waiting for USB3 and the next PCI-E compatible motherboards.

Until these new technologies are out I don't think that many people are keen to upgrade.

I beg to differ. I plan on selling my current computer and build a new one over the summer. As horrible as it does sound, I'm hoping to get some great deals due to the recession in Q2/Q3.
