I have never been to a LAN party, and cannot wait to see some pictures. Sounds like fun. I hope everything went well despite your setbacks. :thumb:

Zap - I've tried to reply to this thread about ten times now.... but I keep getting lost for words.

Amazing dude, I love it.

Could you not make the top lid detachable by making a removable hinge pin (with a split pin to secure it one end and a head at the other)?

    I'mmmmmm baaaaack

Alright I am happy now
(More details on that in a bit)

    SAVING THE LAN PC
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since my original Chaintech board was a P.O.S. and fried out on me two days before the LAN I needed to come up with a way to save the LAN PC.
I then realized that I had the PERFECT save: My other case!
Even if this was the entire intended modification all along, it still rocks!
(Note all this change was done in just 4 hours)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First off I need to get AC power to the new board:
I hacked apart a male and female power jack, soldered them together, injectd hot-glue inbetween the solder joints.
    Instant power splitter.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since the parallel port (for the VFD) was obiously too small to fit through the hole in the new case, so I literaly cut the cable, and resoldered the 12 needed wires back together on the other side.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I then installed the MSI Motherboard from my Media PC project ontop of a cardboard box, then installed the PSU, Harddrive and DVD drive. (And graphics card later)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All the cables: VGA, Parallel, USB, Network, Audio, Power were all wrapped in tubing and routed into the orginal case.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I cut a new grill work into the 60mm fan hole and installed the cableing into the second case.
Inside I used a Cat5 Couple, a USB hub to split USB for keyboard and mouse, and I also left the PSU inside in order to run the VFD, fans, LEDs, USB, and a 4" cold cathode.
The original PSU was then wired to the keyswitch so that when the switch was turned the PSU would power up.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Do it work?
    Or course!

I got all this done in one night, and windows installed.
Everything works perfectly as it should.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also got my green cold cathodes in, and installed them in the keyboard.

    The www.AMDZone.com LAN Party

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright I made it to the party, and got special permision to setup on a table near the front, where lots of people can see the PC
(You can see my friend Shan taking a picture of my setup)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I setup right near the goodie table, lots of stuff was given away, like a geForceFX 5900, and a 5800 (both Leadtek brand)
Those were given to the tourney winners in both Counterstrike and Battlefield 1942.
I was here just to show off, and I didn't play many games.

Here is an image of me with the LAN PC.
All the glow is washed out by the flash though.

It is also the first image of myself that I have posted

It was pretty easy to set the system up, and get it running.

I did end up re-arranging the setup to both show off the PC better, and also that the magnets were screwing with my monitor.

Here is a night shot that shows the glow effects better.
It's hard to capture, but the entire area around the PC was glowing in pure green

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What goes to show that the Chaintech board was meant to fry?
That the prize for best mod was a Leadtek nForce2 400 MicroATX board!
(And of course I won it!)
The best part is that the CPU is in exact same spot as the Chaintek (no the boards arn't identical designs)
This means I can use this to get up and running again!

Also the Leadtek marketing rep that was at the LAN party was pretty happy that the their board is going to be used, instead of a Chaintech.

Also Banished and Geek1017 came up from San Antonio and checked the PC out.

Since I will be getting a value card for this PC at first, then upgrading to a high end PC after HL2 comes out I will probably make the Chaintech into a portable dedicated LAN Server.

I glad you won and your persistence paid off. From the picture, I can clearly see you can think out side of the box. Good people do finish first! Outstanding project well-done!

One question, did you have any hot Texas celebration chili and a couple of lone Stars afterwards?

Zap! Have you forgotten the idea that was about having music playing in the case while you carrying it to a LAN!

If YOU do that I promise I will hook up on that!!
    It shoulden`t bee too tuff!:eyebrow:

If the ledtek is going in the smaller case, then what will you use the large one for? Maybe a sever case?

    Awesome!

Stick the chaintech mobo into the big case along with your acessories and LCD, add a KVM switch, and you now have a LAN server/comptuer all in one (err, two, but you get the idea ;) )
