I dont like this one so much. It looks very messy on the inside and again not a lot of originality. For them to call it a thinking mans Dream Pc says it all. I dont see anything special here, this will never be the winner.

Like it much better then the Cerberus, at least this one isn't a complete MDPC rip off. I really like the etching on this, it is a little untidy on the inside but that would be easily fixed with a re-think of the cable management system. I would have also liked to of seen an anodised black chassis and interior and a nicely designed side window on the left side, something that went well with the etching (could have even continued the etch from the panel onto the plexi window) what's the point of spending the time on the nice looping water loop if you don't get to see it.

I also don't see the point of just publishing the full reviews in the magazine, kinda makes it unfair for everyone else who don't like in the UK or America.

Erm, has no one noticed the title of this thread still refers to the Beast Cerberus?

I like the etching on this one. Specs too :)

Who pics the music for the video's? Sounds like someone's being inspired by 80's soft porn. . . .if you're gonna do porn music, at least make it 70's when it had some (sp)funk

Whilst this is obviously a high spec PC, I think the overall effort is slightly poor, I can understand that the abundance of firms wanting to churn out wallet shredding PC's in the current economic climate is probably limited, as it the potential customer base, but calling this a Dream PC and promoting it in a catagory that previously has turned up some much more original and interesting PC's is somewhat disappointing.

I think CPC/Bit Tech Staff would be advised to pick up back issues of the American Magazine 'Computer Power User' and check out their Dream PC offerings each year.

The most recent ones are here.

    http://www.computerpoweruser.com/ed...10.asp&articleid=58217&WordList=&bJumpTo=True

They are somewhat less inspiring than the previous entries in earlier years (in fact just like CPC's, who could forget the Armari offering?), but they are still a little more inspiring than these efforts.

Any of the more talented Bit Tech modders could knock up something with a similar budget that would make this look particularly low rent without much bother.

As this is also going to be one of the articles that the magazine covers in a lot more detail than the website (which some feel contains most of the content of the mag, thus negating the worth of buying it) the fact that the PC's are a bit off the mark of 'dream' is also a further disappointment.

Much more original than the cerberus and nicely executed, but it still missed the point i think.
Same problem as last entry. Still not a dream pc.
It is very nice and all but it still just is a high-end, mass marketable pc.

:edit: maybe not mass marketable but i think you get my point.

Why does the video zoom in on the Coolermaster logo ? All that does is show its got a bog standard case.A case that anyone could pick up from Scan and customize it however they felt necessary. I'd prefer custom logos and an absence of other branding which only hints at the very ordinary aspects of these machines, using off the shelf parts.

Even MESH have their own badges.

Is it the recession that means everyone's dream PC doesn't use the best components available (even at the time of making the damn thing)

/patiently waits for scan to cream all over the lot of them.

The etching is very nicely done. But unfortunately that's where the pros of the case end. A good attempt, but certainly no dream pc. I'd rather see some very original styling rather than high end parts.

The videos in general aren't executed very well. Like the case badge, why would you spend so long looking at the audio card? Honestly, if there back is bog standard, why show it very much at all? And there needs to be more shots of the internals that aren't unfocused.

t's a nice deviation from the special-side-panel TJ07 oooh-look-at-my-watercooling design but the excecution is lacking

A dream PC is not defined by its hardware alone, if you ask me.

Look at the PCs in the forums or on MDPC for example. They don't all use Tri-SLI or CrossFireX configurations or the newest and hottest CPUs for a reason: It's more about composition as with every piece of art. And that is what a Dream PC should be: Art.

God, Scan better have something extra special in the pipes else this years Dream PC is gonna be very boring....

I think this is even worse than the Beast, I mean c'mon at least powdercoat the inside black to match the externals and stealth the DVD drive. Lazy, practically no modding bar the laser etching (which is nice), boring (and unbalanced) component list, insides aren't particularly well laid out.

I'd like to see a AMD dream PC. Lets face it these are gaming-oriented machines and well all know a 4.2Ghz 920 is gonna be GPU bottlenecked just as much as a 3.8Ghz Phenom II 965.... might even save themselves enough to actually put some cash into the aesthetics then.

    EDIT:

Jeez I just realised how bad some of those component choices are. 2x295's? Which provide what benefit over a single 295? Or even a single 5870? 2 high capacity, super expensive SSD's? Why not 1 lower capacity, much cheaper but still fast (OCZ Vertex?) for OS and games and a pair of RAID'd 1TB Samsung F3'?

They could have saved hundreds and had just the same performance...

It is beyond me why a low quality movie should be better for presenting a case mod than crisp hires photographs.

The videos are just small teasers. The competition is run by Custom PC magazine so its only right that the high quality photographs are published in the magazine first.
