i dunno about low cost chips, the e6300 is only £!20 id say thats some stunning value for money.

I agree with M4RTIN, I guess the AM2's will have to be really cheap or really low on power requirements (god for htpc with small psu?) Whilst it is good news (especially for K8L) I still cannot see that these will be much competition for the core2duo and that is a real shame. I'll be keen to see Tims point of view on the matter or anyone who knows more about it than me lol from a 4x4 point of view though it is good. Less power consumed (which I believe was an issue with the original 4x4?).

 

Perhaps the real point of these is that it both increases production for AMD (more cores per wafer) at a time when they seem able to sell pretty much everything that they can make & lowers the individual cost of production.
In other words it's good for AMD without necessarily being much of an improvement for the consumer.

 

I think they are pushing the prices down in order to comped with Intel. I f you can get a chip with 90% of the power for 60% of the price you dont think twice what to buy(unless you`r a fanboy).

 

Before the Athlon that was pretty much exactly what AMD did. This will be familiar ground for them

 

if they can sell everything that they make (as they pretty much seem to be currently) at current prices then they don't need to drop prices.
Of course if they can now make more than the demand then they would indeed drop prices to stimulate more.

 

So are these new CPUs gonna be mad OCers or what?

 

The first ones maybe not (btw SCAN has some 65nm X2 4200+s in stock) but as the process matures they just might
