I'm graduating high school in June 2010 and have been saving up quite a bit for a laptop. I have one chosen out for $1,350, and i'd like to know what you guys think: ASUS G Series G51VX-X1A NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8700(2.53GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M - Retail Brand ASUS Series G Series Model G51VX-X1A Operating System Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit CPU Type Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53G Screen 15.6" Memory Size 4GB Hard Disk 320GB Optical Drive DVD Super Multi Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M Video Memory 1GB VRAM DDR3 Card slot 1 x Express Card Dimensions 14.6" x 10.3" x 1.3-1.6" Weight 7.26 lbs. Accidental Damage Warranty 1 year ASUS Accidental Damage Warranty - Drops, Fire, Spill, Surge ------------------------------------------------ I am not a gamer, but I do plan on pursuing some graphic design and already do a lot of 3-D rendering as a hobby, in collaboration with a local historical society I am a member of and a historical database website that I run. I have heard that ASUS's tech support is abysmal, so if someone suggests that my graphics hobbies take a back seat (since this is my PC for school), I would understand. Also, i'm thinking that the battery could be a problem. (an 8-cell or 12-cell would be ideal) What do you think?
I'd just point out this will be out of date when college gets here. Wait on a Clarksdale notebook. You will not be disappointed.
That would break your knees if you put it on your lap Spec's good though. Just expect to mostly leave it on your desk
Lenovo Thinkpad Cheesecake! Might not be good for gaming, but there fricking strong and awsome build quality. They also do good deals online!
Moved to hardware. lex90 has hit it on the head - if you're prepared to pay a bit more for older hardware thinkpads are monstrously well built.
Dont do it! I made this mistake of getting a laptop when I moved off to uni thinking it would be dead useful, I'm just about to build a new desktop to replace it. If I unplug it now the battery dies in about 10mins cause it hasn't really been moved in 1.5-2years. Most places have good computers to use while your in there and you are better off with a pc by far (it does depend on your course, but I'm doing a programming course and I dont need mines). If you are determined to get something mobile just to take notes on then grab a net-book (lighter, better battery & more than enough for just note taking in class).
