My friend's compaq presario is set to boot from USB and has the capability to do so. I changed the boot sequence to boot from USB first, but no matter what, it says "BOOTMGR IS MISSING." I've tried different images, different USB drives, yet it refuses to boot from USB no matter what.

    Any suggestions?

What OS image are you trying to boot? Is the image on the USB drive bootable? I know with some laptops you can press like "F12" to choose your boot device. But it sounds like USB drive is not bootable.

I'm actually trying to boot OPHCrack, a utility to remember Windows passwords. I used multiple flash drives so it's not that.

Never used it or even heard of it so I'm out of ideas.

Are you trying to use it to recover a password?
From a quick look at the software I don't think it creates a bootable image on USB only an iso to burn to CD.

    try http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/ instead.

ophcrack is a tool, used to get passwords from the hash, possibly used by hackers, or kids trying to get past limited user restrictions, by getting an admin password, without removing it and causing suspicion.

What size usb drive are you using? I have a pc that won't detect it as a usb if over 2gb, and it shows up in the hdd list instead and I have to move it to number one in the hard drive boot order list. It won't even show up on boot select menu... some bios are just annoying with these things. Perhaps the pc you're using has a same or similar quirk?

Are you sure that this program is bootable from a USB drive and not only from a CD?
