Photos Foolish noob with a camera

I've had a point and shoot camera for a couple of years now but only really used it for holiday snaps and parties, after seeing some of the stuff you guys are producing I decided to have a bit of a serious play with it, and to RTFM

needless to say I forgot to RTFM but out of sheer ignorance about the settings on my camera, insomnia and still being up for sunrise I did manage to get this





Its pretty much as it came out of the camera, only photo-shopping that's been done is the crop and border

Pointers and critique much appreciated, I'm only just starting to get to grips with the thing.
