    Hi everybody,

I was wondering if anybody knows how I could utilize my laptop and truck to map out the coverage of my wifi mesh? I was hoping for some sort of program and GPS hardware that would detect a certain network signal, then let you track its strength, overlaying this onto a street map. My company is located Toronto, Ontario Canada , so we would require Canadian Maps. Any help would be appreciated greatly!

    Thanks,
    Adam Amer

    I smell BS...but I'm not a very trusting person.

I'd suggest netstumbler to find the accesspoints/wifi singnal strength.

From there you'll just have to draw your own map.

    It is possible

Netstumbler and ministumbler will interface with your GPS device and log the coordinates at which it first contacts an access point.

You can then import this log into something like MapPoint and it'll plot all the point for you.

I don't think it'll do it in real time though.

Alternatively use Kismet with GPS enabled. It does it all for you, or if you have a PPC use WiFiFoFum that will do it for you on the move.

I have my PDA runnign wififofum hooked up to my bluetooth tomtom receiver and it maps while i drive :D
