hey there guys as the title says i want a screen with a res of 1600x1200, i dont know why newer screens have a res of 1680x1050? got to be 20'' plus but not to pricey, looking at the £200 mark no more than £250. any ideas, i know there use to be TFT's with 1600x1200 but dam'd if i can find them!! oh and DVI is a must, but HDMI is a waste for me i dont mind it but i wont pay extra for it. my plan is to run it as primary screen and have my current 17'' tft as a secondary, which will display toolbars for 3DS max and photoshop CS2. plus winamp and MSN when im bored! lol!

they are 1600*1050 because they are widescreen. the widescreen 'equivalent' to a 1600x1200 4:3 display is a 1920x1200 24" display. you can get 20" 4:3 panels, although they tend to be more pro oriented and quite expensive.
ok you lost me........ screen size is important to me, i need to be able to display 3D models nice and big makes life so easy. If any of you guys used solidworks you must understand how important screenage is! lol!
I hear you on the screen size in solidworks..Basically anything CAD related need a big screen.. and a Quadro card
quadro's are just the same as gaming card by nvidia, just improved memory (believe its shielded) and better driver surport. my 8800GTS is eatting everything in its path at the moment. so is a 22'' good value at the moment?
for a workstation, maybe. but if you're operating any kind of realtime, multi display environment you need a quadro card for the genlocking hardware it has. they are also more powerful
If you really need screen space save up for a full 16:10 24" job. Myself and Hazardous both made the jump (seperately I must add) and I don't think I'll ever willing go to a smaller screen. I run on a 17" at work, but I can't get a bigger one because I'm only here till July.
I run Solidworks on 2 30" screens, using 2 8800GTXs. It's heaven. I'm going to be building a workstation soon (FX5600, 2 quad xeons, 16GB mem) Not for me unfortunately, but I will get to play with it a little before sending..
ok i seem to remember a screen that had a switch where the inputs could be flicked between. think it was a Dell, basically it has dual input, Anolog and Digital inputs and they can be switched, so two computers could be used on one screen with just a KVM to switch mouse and keyboard. that would be ideal for me!
thank you, guess i will go for a Dell 2005FPW as there not that expensive and a nice size screen. the older Dell 2001FP has a res of 1600x1200, dose this screen also have the same function i am after?
I would suggest going for a 16.7Million colour screen, the 16.2Million are a rip-off and actually have 262Thousand actual colours and poor viewing angles too. '16.2M' hasn't been a worthwhile trade-off for ages, pixel response times are easily fine now even on budget screens. 80% of screens being sold are the 16.2M rip-off type, so beware. Brightness, contrast and response are all good now so I wouldn't worry too much about those when choosing your screen. Why use gfx cards and video streams which work in 16.7M with a screen that's limited to 262T?
