    the only thing worth buying is the K chip. if i'm buying the limited multiplier one (ie the cheapest), i will just wait around for Ivy Bridge. Still in the end the Rampage IV Gene is not available till the end of the year so that means that I will only think about building one then. In the mean time I will stock on 2TB/3TB hard disks before they run out.

    Depends, maybe things will go back to normal for Intel which usually means ramped up stock by the end of January. Whether that replaces last year's batch depends on if they feel the need to cut prices of the current stuff.

    From few initial reviews, it is not so spectacular failure as AMDs Bulldozer, but very disappointed. Difference between S1366 and S2011 is very negligible if any. Very happy with that. No need to switch. Can wait next 3-4 years and save $$$. Said for a long time that X79 will not be a worthwhile investment. If you want cheap&powerful gaming system go X58. Some of hardware is really dirt cheap when compared to brand new X79. Buying X79 for gaming is absolutely ludicrous - unless of course you need e-penis enlargement, then go ahead.

    basically it's a server chip tarted up for the home pc market.

    V. few people need quad channel memory and all that pci-e bandwidth ( desirable yes neccessary no ) or 6 cores especailly when it comes at such a price premium. In 4 months time 22nm 1155 chips are on their way which should be more overclockable ( and have native usb3 and quicksync). it really makes no sense what so ever to anyone but the most specialist of power users( even then I don't see anyone saying it will support ecc memory). I suspect intel has finally priced themselves out of the market. but if you need lots of cores then it's better than bulldudzer probably.

    I've read a few reviews on the 3960X and it is an amazing CPU. Intel have done it again. If I had the money though I would go for a 3930k and a Rampage IV MB.

    I'm still in 775 (Q6600) ... and, depending on Ivy bridge price / perf I might go for 2011 of Ivy. Any way, it won't be before at least 6 months.

    they will bring out an entry level 6 core part in the next six months, I'm not paying early adopter prices

    I'm glad I went for my system when I did...already got a good deal out of it and had I been waiting for this I'd have been very disappointed with the rpicing/perfomace. I might have saved some cash with the older system due to price cuts but I am glad they haven't meant I am back in the stone age with the new rig I have, like it could have been so many times in the past, but I've always managed to jump into the market for a new system at the right times!! :)

    Speaking of compatible heatsinks, does anyone think Thermalright will bring out a bracket for their Ultra Extreme 120's??? Or won't it be enough to keep this chip cool?

    Given these prices, I'm betting people who bought LGA1366 early on are laughing now. A sound investment at the time.

    Well I upgraded for X58 to a Sandy Bridge, 2600K but had to sell that beast of a pc and now I have a 2500K and honestly for gaming I will see no improvement but I would on Video work by upgrading to Sandy Bridge E but it's not worth I don't think.

    I am still saving for my next build at the moment, but will have to see what the new revision's of these chip's bring when I have the money saved otherwise it will be Ivy Bridge for me.

    Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 24GB,

    if you got it like that jericho =] tell us how it goes..

    I like they got rid of push pin mounts.. seems a whole lot smarter to go that way- beats drilling holes in backplates to make coolers fit
