    Hmm...,

PNP is more playing and less praying thankfully with Win2K.

Short of trying out new drivers or different NIC cards. I am fresh out of ideas.

    :( :(

Time to buy a new PC then. lol!:D

I think a switch and some standard patch'll do for now.

I would have recommended a switch from the start. I have never even tried to connect pcs together with Xover cables..

Switches are so cheap now that just for peace of mind, I would recommend them as the way to go.

I have 6 PC/Servers set up and they all run through a switch that I got from work and all works fine.

The only problem I had was the initial setup (was my first time :)).

If a switch is out of the question then try getting NICs of the same make and model.

    Good luck

Is your xover cable wired correctly?

one end should be wired in this order:
    12345678
other end should be wired in this order:
    36145278

If you temporarily install NetBEUI on both PC's, do they
still not see each other? This would eliminate any issues
    with TCP/IP.

Also, what services are running on each machine?
Do they each have Server, Workstation, and Browser
    services running and started?

    BO!

Doing nothing more than taking out the x-over and plugging the straight patch cables into the switch, the network now works without trouble. I know for a fact that nothing was defective except this ****ty OS!

Cheers for all the help here guys, even tho the original problem wasn't solved.

If I can give one piece of advice to anyone considering linking two PCs, it's this. spend the extra bit of cash and save yourself a LOT of headaches get a hub.
