I have a circuit which includes a battery, motor and switch basically like a hand power tool, however the motor can manually be turned by hand quite a lot, now i’m led to believe if you manually turn a motor it creates a current which goes back through the circuit to the battery - side, would it be good practice to have a diode to combat this? Should i even be worried?

or without a diode would it just act like a charger all but a very small charger?

Hello, can you clarify what kind of motor and battery do you use ? Basically current from accidental rotating small dc motor by hand is infinitesimal, but if you want to block negative current you should use Schottky diode with appropriate current rate. Nevertheless, I don't see any menace in using this schematic without a diode.
