Rip off merchants! I hate the idea of having to pay for stuff twice.
That's why I refuse to buy music with DRM as I might have to pay for it again.

    This is going to FAIL!
Did they not learn anything about wanting to play games you own already with the PS3? Sales dipped once the backward compatibility chip was removed, and now you can't even play the same generation games on the same generation hand held!
This is just too dumb by Sony.

So its been reduced to a less functional, uglier and more expensive version of the existing PSP. Great.

*pics up megaphone* FAIL!!!!!!! *puts down megaphone*

They are going to kill this platform in a way that will make people in the future cringe when they hear the name of this abomination.

Glad I have an old first generation PSP. Hacked to homebrew and back.

    Completely agree.

I've got a fair old catalogue of PSP games (rereleases of old JRPGs, for the most part) so this is stupidity. Makes me glad I picked up a spare PSP cheap (for when mine breaks; it's Sony, so it probably will...) when a local electronics store was having a closing down sale.

With them still considering trading in your UMD for digital version, then im for that. I wouldnt mind getting rid of my disks as they are falling apart.

Could someone develop a completely new OS for the PSP? The hardware is great but sony sucks - badly. Id love to see an open OS for portable consoles. But im probably pushing the boundaries of fantasy too far there. :-(. I wish someone would enable 802.11g on the Slim though ...

Sony seem determined to kill this thing.

I can't think of a good move they've ever made with the system..

It sounds like sony is trying to cut out retailers in everyway possible. ( assuming that is that you would need to bring the disc into one to have it transferred over.)

And comparing it to the dreamcast is a little cruel, I mean the dreamcast at least had some redeeming qualities.

Games, Music, Video, Browser, RSS Feeds, Remote play? Made it slimmer with the 3000 and better screen. What else do you want it to do? clean your house?

No, the Price point of the system and the price of the DLC is going to kill it.

Sales dipped, are you sure? Is Nintendo also stupid too with their DSI then? If you have gone and got a PSPgo to replace your PSP then why would you still keep your UMD's? unless your keeping your old PSP, in which case what is the problem?

You dont have too, trade your UMD in for the DLC if you really want it.

If they allowed you to transfer it then they would be open to pircay, because you could just give your game (UMD) to your firends and get it transfered to their psp's too.

Then retail would be out of business because there would be no reason to buy a game, just get a copy off a friend.

I still dont get it, why did they make this? why does it exist? for what purpose? they should have put the money wasted on this into like the PSP2 or I dont know adding more software features to the current psp ~_~

I say for the next generation of PSP drop UMD and have TWO memory card slots, one for your own personal memory with no size limit and the second for the games to come on instead of UMD disc we would use the memory sticks. now that would be awesome, no worries about disc issues and there would be less power usage and you can fit more products into your travel case ^_^

the problem is probably other publishers. they probably don;t like the idea of a UMD being "copied". They would rather have you rebuy their games.
