Yep. Long long ago, I had planned to apply and go on the show, even had a team and the funds in place finally ( team was going to be the SuicideSquad, and I was the Captain, SuicideNeil- made sense at the time... :worried: ). Saddly, that was also the time the show jumped to channel 5 and got cancelled after 1 series of being on that channel- due to half the county not being able to receive channel 5 at the time ( before freeview ) + it being a new channel, so viewing figures went through the floor ( it was the highest viewed show on bbc2 at the time, along with RedDwarf ).

I never got my chance to appear :( One day I might build a bot and enter into the 'underground' robot fighting circuit- there are a couple organisations that run events around the country and have all the management and safety stuff sorted out properly, just like the tv series...

EDIT: tell you something else demote- for some reason the dailmirror page on facebook has an article trending about Tony Hart dying; he died in 2009. Now I see people saying RIP Tony Hart all over the place; wtf?

When I was at primary school we build a robot for the competition and we did qualify, sadly before we got to the televised bit we had motor problems and the replacements we had bumped us over the weight limit and we couldn't get it back under the limit in time, so we got DQ'd...

That sucks- need to carry an angle grinder and just lop parts off until it was light enough.

I still laugh when I think about the grand final of series 1- they just chucked all 6 bots into the arena together, ignoring the fact that 5 were 50-80KG heavyweight bots and one was a 10KG lightweight, :D Good old days...

Yup, TV companies are good at killing successful series to pander to mediocrity. One of the most watched afternoon programmes on ITV was Bad Influence: a decent programme about computer games. It was canned basically because the then executive director didn't like video games.

Dr Who went off air for very similar reasons in the 1996. Then BBC Director-General Michael Grade didn't like SciFi.
Thus was born the manic-depression-inducing Eastenders.

Do you remeber the cheats section where you would record a minute long bit at the end of the show and then play it back slowed down to read the cheats... awesome!

trying to cut down a 300 page PDF file for the 30 or so bits i actually need

unforunatly due to it being a PDF i cant edit the damned thing, so i have to copy - paste writing, and then find the images ( as copy / paste simply turns them black )

    /sigh

Have you got a copy of the PDF that I could try something with?

I might be able to at the very least make an editable word document out of it...

That is the main thing about PDF, the inability to simply edit it like a word document or pages of pictures ( jpeg or whatever ), need to have £££ software or find some magic way of converting it to a different, easily editable format.

There is some freeware that will split a .PDF document up into the pages you want.
