http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20101020PD223.html http://we.pcinlife.com/thread-1540808-1-1.html GT580 rumoured and seems real
im excited for this, want to get back to nVidia ship since 6970 is rumoured to be hot and hungry. might as well get a nvidia card for more features if same ATI card is just as inefficient.
And it will be able to run that monitor of yours. On a side note I got one myself yesterday nice monitors.
http://www.pcgameshardware.de/aid,7...t-Geforce-GTX-580-unterwegs/Grafikkarte/News/ I will keep searching for decent images but here is more notes on it. There's been plenty of chatter about AMD's upcoming HD 6000 series, but not much in the way of what Nvidia's been up to. Will Nvidia have anything to counter AMD's new graphics cards? According to the latest water cooler talk, Nvidia is getting close to announcing its GeForce GTX 580. This card will use the GF110 GPU and supplant the GTX 480 as Nvidia's flagship videocard. The GTX 580 will come with 512 CUDA cores, 128 texture units, and probably 2GB of GDDR5 memory on a 512-bit memory bus. German site 3dcenter.org also lists other GF110 GPUs with as many as 768 CUDA cores. Depending on the GPU, performance is expected to be anywhere from 5 percent to 50 percent faster than the GTX 480.
photo contribution to the U2711 thread is welcome glad you are enjoying it, how's those 480's perform on it? managing resolution with AA?
i doubt it will be inefficient seem just like rumours to me and it wouldnt fit with how AMD are going about thier GPUs right now. all the 5 and 6 series are really good for temps and efficiency so why would the 69xx be any different ?
The GTX480's have no problem at all at that res with everything on high. The only thing thats a p*ss off is with New Vegas at that res you get the black bars top and bottom so I have to drop the res down for that game. But Asassins creed II is great at that res and is Batman, Not tried Metro yet. What thread is the U2711 one ?? give a link if poss and I post a pic.
Nvidia changed their font to something basic? Things must be hard for them... --- There are no stats here, and that's just (Or could be) any old Nvidia dualslot cooled card to be honest mate. When I see stats and a decent picture... I'll believe it. Personally I think Nvidia will come back at the 7xxx series of ATi... Thats my personal view anyway
It'll be interesting to see there performance's. I am still loving my 5870's running in crossfire and for gaming damn they are smooth. I am now in a dilemma do I keep these or do I exchange them for a 580 or 6980 but time will tell. But one thing for sure there has to be a major increase for me to trade my 5870's in. I reckon the next 6 months with graphic cards are going to be interesting and might also change the way graphic cards will go.
Ignoring the fact the image could be be a fake for the moment, can Nvidia go back to having a covered heat sink for their top end card? I quite like the fact that the 480 has the top of the heat sink exposed!
Good luck with that as there aren't any. The card is just a rumour/paper launch. You'll still be waiting for it to appear in February!
If they do it'll obviously mean the 580 will run cooler than the 480. I'm pretty sure the exposed heatsink was a necessary feature rather than an aesthetic design decision.
Isn't this one of the reasons that (in a well ventilated case) a 480 can run cooler than a 470? (I'm sure I have read this somewhere). Also rumours of 768 shaders would be interesting as that would either be 24 clusters*32SP or 16 clusters*48sp (ala GF104).
Not sure what temps a 470 runs at but my 480's while gaming are maxing at 68c so I would have to agree that a case with good airflow make's all the difference.
With photos like those I'm always a bit weary of whether the item being photographed is even a real video card in the first place. Once Nvidia or AMD have finalized the connectors to be used, the PCB size and stock cooler design they can easily make demonstration versions of a card, or draft versions for their own internal reasons, which will externally look like a next-gen card.
I totally agree with you pete, I know its sad but the gtx 480 looks ace with the heat pipes popping out the cooler especially when you have two together, reminds me of a fat V8 with the exhaust heaters showing!!
