I read the article as saying that it isn't really meaningful or relative though; that with so much being brought on chip over the past decade a lot of other architecture design decisions govern compute power, efficiency and density more than a single number from the marketing team does. AMD's latest advance in stacking chiplets being a case in point.

No point reading any article. It will perform 5 to 10% faster than a 3080, but cost a shed load more. Conclusion? Buy a 3080.... except you can't do that either. It must be a rough time to be a hardware reviewer.

Sorry, not trusting to sounds patronising, but did you even read my post?

Nvidia could've had a bigger share of the available TSMC captivity, they screwed up. Initially (read: several quarters before Ampere's launch) Jensen said in a financial call he only wanted to use Samsung for a small share of production, basically to fill up gaps in supply.

Absolutely correct, actual measurements are completely different. But you can still comment on relative efficiency and performance between different nodes. And Samsung performs worse than TSMC's equivalent leading edge process in the metrics I'm concerned about.

I was close. UK FE price seems to be £1049

Outrage aside, it looks like a pretty decent product. Essentially a 3090 in a smaller form factor.

LHR will be bypassed in short order.

The only issue is the reports of black screen artifacting.

So who will be f5'ing this afternoon :D , as much as I don't like it I probably will, I've been waiting too long, so unfortunately I will be one of those helping Nvidia justify its price bumps assuming I can even get hold of one, been held back by my 1080Ti for ages now, thankfully I didn't sell them all.

Looking at benchmarks and the fact that I would have it under water it would be a toss up between this and a 6900xt at MSRP, assuming any could be found.

Depends what you compare it to:
If we take the MSRPs at face value and pretend all options are in stock then the 3080TI looks very good compared to the 3090 and 6900XT.
But compare it to the 3080 and 6800XT and then the 3080TI looks horribly overpriced.
So everyone can just pick and choose if the 3080TI is good or bad.

Of course in the real world that is irrelevant anyway as we all know the 3080TI will be joining the 3080 and 3090 in the £2K+ stratosphere on the bay of flea.

Can't stretch to the likely £1049 price today, and we all know the first batch will be sold out in 5 seconds flat.

I'll keep hunting the 3080 FE.

The problem is Nvidia will plough every available die that doesn't make the grade for 3090 onto the 3080 Ti cards.

I'd imagine the 3080 just went from hen's teeth to unicorn rocking horse poop.

Yup, I am sure the reason you couldn't get any is because Nvidia realised they were missing out and AIBs getting all the dough and have been stock piling die for the price correction, I reckon there will strangely be loads of availability of Ti but 3080 no more unless there are yield issues getting all 10k units to function.

Will the Gigabyte/Asus/Zotac/etc 3080 Ti’s all go on sale at the time? Or just the initial Nvidia FE version?

From what it says on Scan's order page for the 3080Ti, everything will hit at once (and probably vanish 10 seconds later).
We'll find out in an hour, they go on sale at 2pm UK time.

Nvidia have now confirmed the price tag as £1049 for FE.

I guess Nvidia forgot about VAT. Scan are out of stock (as expected), but list the price a little higher than Nvidia do...

EDIT: This was a glitch. Scan are now showing the correct price (but zero stock).
