Windows PC just froze and now wont boot

    Left pc for a few mins came back and screensaver was froze and hard disk light stuck on. Couldnt do anything except hit reset - then as it comes to boot up i get a message saying windows couldnt start because the file system32\hal.dll is missing.

    Sounds like a virus but does anyone know what this file does and will I be able to copy it over from another pc?
