What kind of oc can u get with such an obscene cooler And do you prop it up in some way??

 

Heres mine. HD4870 512mb. Had it over a year and a half and already RMA'd it twice >.> This what it came back looking like the second time instead of reference cooler

 

You can see it is held up with a black tie wrap on the right hand edge.

Unfortunately, I've got a dud card that won't overclock at all, .

It keeps it nice and cool though, don't think I've seen more than 50 degrees under full load, can drop to 35 in the winter at idle. And its always very quiet, although now that I've decided to put my old sound card in right under the fan, it sounds a bit like a vacuum cleaner,

@philheckler: So you went from SLI'd 260s to a 470? Isn't that a step backwards in performance?

 

It depends. Atleast now he will not get SLI-surprises in any games

Update on mine...and more dust

 

At stock the 470 is slightly slower than my 260sli but i'm running my 470 at 720mhz on the core (no extra volts) and at that speed it's about the same if not faster (these fermi cards really do respond to overclocking BTW) - I wanted the dx11 compatability from the 470 more than the extra performance the 260 sli gave me - i only ran sli for about two weeks btw - I bought the 2nd gtx260 off ebay for 30 quid a few weeks ago - it was sold as faulty but i found it worked fine when i got it - have sold on both the 260's now to pay for the 470 and so far i think it's a fantastic card - coming form a gtx260 i'm finding the noise and temps more than acceptable....

You might've unknowingly been bumped up to a 1GB model.

That's good to hear! Will you be considering SLI in the future? I'd love to see some independent benchmarks.

 

So here it is, my ageing 9800GT 512MB with a Vortexx cooler, sitting on my new DFI Lanparty 790FX AM2+ board.

Didn't clean out the dust, though.

 

maybe later if i can pick up a second hand one cheap... - but at the moment for 1680x1050 this card is more than good enough - only game that really taxes it is metro2033 (dx11 / 2xaa / very high) and even then sub 25 fps doesn't seem happen that often...

Oh, and for some reason I managed to install my roof exhaust fan backwards when I installed the new motherboard. Whelp, back in 10 minutes.

 

lol doesnt the x2 6000+ run at 3.1Ghz rather then 3.0Ghz?

I think it is "somewhat" done for, as I have to power on my pc, no image, reboot, then there is an image and my screen turns on! It was in my old shuttle when the powersupply blew up, maybe thats the reason....

 

I really need to re-install my white cathode.
I don't like my case being so dim all the time.
