Thanks very much guys. With some new motivation, I'm planning on putting a mostly full day of work in today. I'm locking myself in my room and doing as much of the shoji as possible along with routing some more grooves and attaching and milling the front plate. I hope to finish most of the construction of the case this week. Stay tuned.

Hey guys. I should have realized this much earlier (like before I did all the friggen work) but the side panel design isn't going to work.

Today, I finally got all the shoji pieces rough cut to realize that getting them to fit flush with the spruce and cherry is going to be a nightmare.

The solution is to make a thinner panel of shoji and put that behind the spruce pieces. I actually like this better because it will enable me to get more sculptural with the spruce and give yet another layer to the whole thing which should be sweet.

Anyway, here's some of what I did.

    Tools of the trade:

    Lots of repetative cutting:

    and more cutting:

    And done!
    ...except i'm redoing everything

    All the wasted work:

Something that is going right that i'll talk about later:

Stay tuned for more of course.

    Hey everyone, yet another update.

I worked on the front today, making it as simple and clean as possible.

I started by drilling and tapping the holes for the screws that attach the acrylic.

And then I cut two holes and chamfered the edges for the clean look to accept the buttons:

Taking the paper off temporarily to see what it looks like. Please don't get scratched :eeek:

Thats it for now, shoji time tonight. Stay tuned.

Thanks very much guys. The pencil is a Graphgear 1000 by Pentel, friggen sweet. To continue with the update craziness, I have a new one, with good news this time no less.

I cut new shoji pieces, smaller ones this time.

    Mark 'em:

    Cut 'em:

    Put 'em together:

This needs to go into that:

Got the rest ready too: (you can see the waste pile in the back, damn shame that is)

They attach to the frame with these:

    Like so:

    They fit:

    Now the middle piece:

    It fits:

    Details:

And its done, woo. There are only 6 points where the shoji touches the frame, much better than the 25 or something there was going to be. And it looks way better too.

Stay tuned after I slave away for another day.
