    Hi Guys!

Today i got rid of some part of the case i didn't need and were in the way, also some soldering work on the psu was done.

I made a trip to the local electronic store to buy this:
Wire matching the one used in a computer and also some heatshrink in the same color they didn't have orange shrink but red will do.

The PSU "guts" as they looked.
Non matching heatshrink, and the ATX still in it's original sleeving.

After a lot of soldering and heatshrinking:
Looking much better allready, with the wires extended and the correct colors.

Also i got a pair of these:
Some very cool toggleswitches that i showed in the frontpanel, i was going for black ones but they only had all kinds of bright colors and this carbon look ones, but i think they will and up getting some black paint.

And these matt black LED holders:
Here lying next to te chrome version.

    Tonight a new update.

    Regards, Bas van der Werff.

    Hi Guys!

Today i was working on the HDD for the system, that i designed in sketchup.

This is the bottom part that will rest on the bottom of the lower case:
The blue things are antivibration rubbers that were salvaged from the stacker HDD racks.
Bolts sticking through the bottom of the case fit inside the rubbers and hold them in position.

    This is the top part:
Here you can see the bolts that will hold the rubbers in place, the black bracket you see will fit between the standard bay area.

I only made the parts that hold the HDD's (out of aluminium), for the top bracket i first have to get a piece of 5mm thick aluminium.
Also a start on the brackets for the PSU's was made i want them to fall back in the case about 2 cm so i can make 2 identical grills for in the back,

Later tonight some photo's of the work done today.

    Regards, Bas van der Werff.

Here are the parts needed for the part that holds the HDD's:
As you can see the little angles still need some filling, but i'm working on that now.

I'm indeed going to use a key to turn on the keypad but not the key that is on the keypad box because that isn't electrical it's just to lock the box.
The key that i will be using is from the ignition of a motorcycle.
If i'm correct post #13 shows want i'm doing with it :D

    Hi guys!

Finally got the time to get myself a sheet of aluminium, so tommorrow a update on the front panel :D

1: I'll make the DVD stealth plates (just 2 simple rectangles).
2: The panel where the router status led's will be.
3: And the keypad control panel.

A part of the work on the HDD rack had to be redone, the alu strip they gave me wasn't 2mm thick as i asked for, but it was 1.5 mm thick :wallbash:
But they kindly gave me new strips of the right thickness and some nice rest pieces of alu.

    Hi Guys!

No time to mod yesterday :( but today i made a start with the front panels :D

Here are the first pieces cut out of aluminium (right now i'm cleaning up the edges:
Those are for the control panel, the dvd stealth covers, the front for the router leds.
And also one try piece for the PSU holes, i need 4 of these but first i make this one fit so i can copy it.
Two will get ventilation grills (like the ones on aquacomputer grills) those are for the PSU's that will be in the middle of the case.

Because i have 2 different PSU's, creating 2 new backsides keeps it looking uniform, for mounting those the psu's have to fall back in the case like this:
This way the grills can be identical and i can rout the main power that will be soldered directly on the PSU prints to the bottom of the case where both power sockets (the standard ones on PSU's) will be.
So i can plug in both systems at the bottom and don't have a powercord halfway up the case, also the router will be in the same bottom part, together with 2 switches to turn of the power without unpluging.

Later today i'll post the beginning on the main control panel with the keypad :D

Looking good so far, very interesting ideas.

I've contemplated using something similar to your keypad in my new mod I'm currently planning, too, but it'll be quite a bit different, if it turns out my idea is actually doable, hehe.

Well it's not that similar, hehe. I want to use a small touch-screen LCD monitor for the keypad, i.e. it will be software controlled. This will then allow access to voltage settings for the various fans, and such.

    Hi Guys!

Today i did some work on the keypad because this:
was to big and would have looked out of place.

First i got out the electronics and keypad:
    Wat was very simple.

After that i removed the lid and with my trusty angle grinder i started grinding away what i didn't needed:
What was very hard because it was very thick steel and very hard.

And after a lot of filing it look like this:
As you can see i rounded the edges to make it blend in better.

    And put together again:
Ready to be put in the front panel that i also filed and sanded.

Tonight another update on the front.
But i still have to think of a way to mount it without any screws that can be seen, i can always use countersunk M3 hexbolts but i want to keep the front clean of to much screws, anyone got an idea?

    Regards, bas van der werff.

    nice project so far

what about if you stick some bolts on the inside of it and then bold it onto the front from the back

    Hi guys!

    Thanks for the reactions :thumb:

    Thanks mate :D
Thanks :D this afternoon i'll update again.
The problem is if i want a touchscreen i have to get the 7" i can't find a 5" touchscreen, but the problem is a 7" is to wide for a normal bay so i have to cut the front "sidebars"
A 5" would fit between but i really want it to be a touchscreen for purpose that you will later see :naughty:
You mean the green back part of the keypad? because then it isn't possible that's the pcs and i cant drill in it :(

Today i'll make the second part of the control panel and tha twill be the key switch the power leds and 2 push switches (the toggle were just to big and the weren't the right type but they will return but for the lighting control :D

    Bas :D
