Is the radiator going to take air from the side? or the bottom?

 

Lol thank you. Fiji just got pounded by SA, but the real game is AU, NZ and England.

The radiator has a vent at the bottom of the case. I am using an old radiator form an Apple Mac G5. It is about 120mmX140mm.

Not sure of we have a center punch

Another thing somebody suggested is that I drill a small pilot hole first, which will go in easier, then complete it with my 3.5mm.

Yeah small pilot hole is good but the best thing imo for drilling spot on where you want to is a drill bit which I don't know the name of type but wish I did as I need to buy a few more because they are so useful, it's just a drill bit with a 90 degree sharp tip, lets you set up your drilling nice & easy massively improving your precision for manual drilling, since getting mine I rarely need to use the drill press, I'll keep looking to see if I can find the name of the type of bit.

 

I used to work in a hardware store and what you describe sounds like a spotting drill bit... typically for drilling on an angle, but more aggressive bite when drilling strsight in, would help prevent walking.

I use regular metal bits, a center punch (they aren't that expensive, at least for non-auto), and start as slow as I can.

starter drill stand for typical hand drill costs around 35-40$ - like couple of scythe gentle typhoons. and will serve You for years making precise and nice holes and no need to sale kidney

 

Mighty fine , MIGHTY FINE! really nice metal work Razer. I'd try out a center punch and spot drill with a small bit. You might as well get a few of the small cheep bits while your at it, they dull quick and break easily, but when on a tight budget there you go...a hand tap would help you out with your walk'n woes as well. One more to look at is an electricians "Stepped bit", you can find them in various sizes to suit your needs. Might server you well as a good alternative for cutting through holes for your tubing and other areas. A good quality one will last you awhile. But get a center punch no matter what you decide on! We have one but it is broken and flimsy. One day when I have money to spend I'll see about that stuff.

Loose my friend, good to see you comment here! I might get a center punch some time, but for now I'm OK.

I hit a small hole with a very hard and sharp screw, drill a 2mm hole (because the thin bit doesn't walk around), then drill the 3.5 or 4mm hole. Works perfect.

I have seen the step drill bits. Might look at that for the tubing/fitting holes.


Yesterday I made the front and top panel and the curves came out well. Just need to countersink some holes and put in the right screws then I'll show you! Gonna put up pics later today!

 

No centre punch? use a nail dude!

 

As I said I currently use a sharp screw or nail for it.

I made the top and front panel of the case yesterday.



I filed a groove where the corner must be, with a triangular file, about 2mm deep into the 3mm aluminium. I clamped the sheet down and bent it. I then made 2 corner pieces to support the corner so that it can be sturdy, and attached it. Then I needed to bend the curves. I print out a 100% to scale diagram of the curves, to use as a guide. I put 2 thick planks about 30cm apart and put the sheet across it, and stood on the sheet "bridge"
Eventually I got the right curve, accurate to about 3mm, and fixed it to the case using more 8mm corner pieces. The case shell is accurate withing about 2-3mm everywhere, and I'm happy.

I used the temporary screws again for I didn't have time to countersink the screws. I will do this tomorrow.

Sorry for the pathetic picture, It was late and I couldn't set up a nice studio or get efficient light for high shutter speeds
