    The UMPC
    ( Ultra Mobile PC )

    Heloooo all !
I finally decided to start to build a new compact Mobile computer, that will include a 7.2" LCD screen.
It will also work as a car-computer with the LCD...
the computer is based on a slim old cd-player case, that was adjusted to all components

we are having an holiday now, so I don't have school till monday - staying home :naughty:

    specs:
    AMD Athlon XP 1700+
    Gigabyte 7VKML (microATX)
    384 MB DDR (256+128mb)
    WD400 (40gb 8mb 7200rpm)
    generic 300W PSU

This is the case, the top fan, and painting it in blue

This is the front panel, and I conserved the old button interface

    PSU and MOBO

the special designed heatsink - only 3cm high - the fan has to be on it, and under the metal cover

OK, for the front panel buttons, I'm using the COM port serial button interface (second COM port is a 9 pin header on MOBO, so all is internal and I dont have to connect it from outside)

Here is the mounted fan on the opened cover, and the back IO panel

    Thats all for now !
    I will update !
The 7.2" LCD is going to arrive next week (Pyle 7.2" with remote)

    Thanks for replying,
    Avner Richard

Great mod, I'm subscribed, but I have a few suggestions...

First of all is the hole under the power inlet - I think you should fill it.. and the IO ports on the mobo, It'd look brilliant if you cleaned it up so there was an IO panel of some description between the ports, so all you could see is the ports poking out of the back..

Otherwise, It's bloody good :) :thumb:

Wow. Very nice, and compliments to you, as you beat me to the punch. I have a similarly thin (broken) CD player from =Dun dun DUN= 1985 that I gutted, and was going to do the same thing with. Keep up the good work! :dremel:

this is a clear UV reactive sleeving, but it's not very reactive...

Is'nt it a bit stupid to paint your heatsinks as you have done?
Kinda "isolates" the heat, maybe its not much but why?

    Anyway, great mod.

can you give some more info on that serial button interface you have rigged up for the front panel? what all does it control? is there some sort of guide for that or is it totally custom? nice work cramming everything into that case.
