Rule number 1# Don't write the shipping label, print it with Paypal. BTW Paypal contacted me to say to inform me that the buyer needed to contact them to authorize the transaction. I informed the buyer about this and he replied that he contacted Paypal to confirm and that the fund would be available in 48h (That was 16hours ago). A few minutes ago, Paypal sent me a mail to inform me that the transaction had been reversed. : / Here's the problem, the transaction has been reversed but the buyer is still able to leave a comment. I've contacted ebay about that.
I didn't write the shipping label. I brought home the receipts from the PO and then wrote on the back what they were for. When I sell on Ebay I usually have a good clear out (or did, I shan't be any more) and so it easily gets confused.
Received a mail from Ebay '' This transaction is still eligible for feedback from both you and the buyer. As a payment was sent and refunded, we will still allow them to give feedback regarding their overall experience.'' and this is how ebay help sellers, giving the right to a potential thief to leave me a bad comment.
I had the same issue once- a guy won an item I was selling, but never paid- I opened a case to get a refund on the listing fees, got the refund and thought that was the end of it. A few days later, he left me negative feedback calling me a time waster; I contacted ebay and explained that he had no grounds to leave negative feedback as he never even paid- they agreed and deleted his feedback. If your 'buyer' does leave negative feedback, or a rude comment with positive feedback, just contact ebay again, for the reasons stated above.
Feedback on ebay it a total waste of time. I do not leave feedback until I get positive feedback from the buyer or seller. I sold some of my step sons old games. The guy who won the auction had over a 40k feedback rating! (all on purchases) and paid almost instantly. I sent him the game, left feedback positive and then 2 weeks later he tells me the games doesn't work and that it didn't go past the loading screen. He demanded a refund and that under ebay rules I would have to re-imberse him the postage cost if I wanted the game back or he could dispose of it for me! Anyway here's his message: I responded saying it did work and I had tested the disk and it was working. Yes it was scratched etc... but it WORKED. He replied and moaned at me. So I told him I would refund him the amount, the grand sum of £2.70 when I received the game back. I left it 3 days and never heard from him, I then contacted him giving him 7 day and if I didn't hear from him I would consider the matter settled. 2 days later he replies saying "You haven't sent me the money for the postage, that's why you haven't got it back". To which I said "You haven't confirmed you wanted me to have it back". I offered to send him a PRE PAID return postage package, another 3 days later he agrees. I did at this point, tell him that if the game worked and wasn't faulty that I could re-claim my costs, which included the postage and packing cost and also my time if I felt fit. Another 3 days...... nothing from him. Then he answered "Yes please send me the packaging to send it back, I can't believe you want me to have to post the game back". I sent it to him, it cost me more than what I sold the game for as I sent it Royal Mail Signed for and again for him to send it back. I never did get the game back, but the point of it is, that I couldn't leave him negative feedback as I had already given him positive feedback. And to all who are interested his user name on ebay is http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/sam103329 He is clearly a con artist and didn't want to pay for the game or tried to get money back off me plus more!
Sadly Ebay is just like that. You get all of the nasty swines and con men. I just stick to buying now. If something isn't worth the aggro and I want shot of it I either give it away or take it to the local dump. Anything with any value I only sell via Gumtree or what not and make sure that it's cash on collection only.
Really? Can you not see the difference in the trust issues of buyers between buying from Asda and buying from someone you have never and will never meet, who is possible only making a sale of a single item. Beyond the private sellers there are so many companies on ebay of which a significant percentage are scammers (no real figures but I would guess that it would be in the 2-5% range easily, which would represent a lot of potential risky sales) that it is impossible to identify who is who, the feedback system is supposed to solve that problem (whether it does or not is not the question here). This is also the reason for such websites as Better Business Bureau (BBB), which is for web based companies in general. If it weren't for such sites a lot of people would have issues buying from unknown companies they will never see in person and it would be difficult for smaller companies to build a reputation.
I've bought from small merchants plenty of times without doing a background checks, never got screwed. As far as I can remember, every time I got trouble was on ebay. That's why they have a rating system, because they know all the crooks are doing business on their platform loll
Pro tip: if you are a seller, do not leave the buyer feedback until they have received the item and left you feedback. That way, if they turn out to be a scammer or retard, you can use the 'report buyer' button on the feedback page- then ebay will step in and hopefully get things sorted in an amicable manner.
I got Ebay to examinate the case, still waiting for them to cancel the transaction. Like hell I'll pay 17$ fees for an item that I did not sell. .
I've not really had any horror stories from selling on ebay, but this thread has convinced me to try the market forum on here to sell my DK2.
Wow! Blast from the no so past! Well, I got money for stuff, so all good! I've sold a few more things since then without any problems. I also bought a few things from an awesome seller, who replaced something without issue that was faulty. I even managed to request something 'off the menu', which was nice!
My experience with Ebay is that the more specialist something is, the more you should keep it away form Ebay. Selling old bike tyres and mice/keyboards goes fine. Selling my BOS suspension or internal computer parts won't.
Pretty much this. I am having issues when selling motherboards particularly. Nothing fancy but people abuse the returns policy something rotten. Had some cheeky oik claim a brand new board was DOA and "clearly used". Funny as the bios had a error logging feature and showed he was using it for over a week before he sent it back, postage at my cost!! Made my piss boil.
I just received a message from a buyer to whom I've sold a vintage razor. The item was sold on the 5th February, I shipped the parcel with tracking number, the buyer received the parcel and left a positive feedback. This morning he contacted me: "I do not think that I can use this item. My wife is about to shot me. I forgot that the doctor put me on a blood thinner and now I am afraid to try it. Would you buy it back? Let me know what you think" This is a first.
I dont bother selling electronics anymore, as its so easy for a buyer to break/switchout something with a dud, and eBay/Paypal will always side with the buyer.
