Due to the price shifting and upcoming anniversary of popping from the womb, I want to treat myself. But I'm in purchase limbo. I currently have: i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz 16gb Ram GTX660ti sli 2560x1440 Display I want to bump the GPU grunt to achieve a solid 60-100fps in most modern games at native resolution, and can't make up my mind! r280x XFire 770 (2gb or 4gb) SLI 780? The pricing shift has landed a week before my birthday, and bang on payday, so it's fate that this hole is being seared through my wallet today. Any ideas? Budget: £5-600
I don't think that was a choice, I especially as price wise 2*780s is a big difference compared to 2*770s
If it was money no-object, I'd go for Tri-Sli 780, with 2tb raid0 SSD's - but alas, working man has a budget. The 780 was thrown into the mix for the bang-for-buck debate, i've used SLI/Crossfire since the Radeon 1900xt days
For me, looking at multigpu nvidia would be my only choice. This is based on the frame latency reports from tech report. AMD have fixed this to a certain extent but thats only for dx11 games. That said I think the two 770s would give you the biggest increase over two 660tis.
I would personally go for a single card, with the potential to add another later. Wouldn't personally buy straight into a multi-card setup unless going for top end stuff. I would think that the 780 should be able to play most modern games how you want?
I'm not sure a single 780 could maintain 60-120fps @ 1440p in the modern greats? Most reviews show even a titan struggling to top that in things like BF4, Hitman Absolution, Crysis3. I think I've decided to grab two 780s in the next couple of weeks - just waiting on the 290(non x) pricing to knock Nvidia down a peg or two before I hit the checkout button. Failing that, two 770's. The rents gone out and I've budgeted for the rest of the month, so kissing goodbye to the expendable is going to be easy.
One thing id consider is the 2GB of vram on the 770. Im with george on this one tho. Id go single 780 or 290 see how it goes and then add another if needs be.
How advance 2x780 SLI to a single 780 ????? You talkin about over £400 odds !! And compare Titan. If money no object Will you guy buy 2x780 or Titan or 2xR290x?

It's the resolution i'm concerned about. gaming at 1440p is not something you'd ever want to back away from, at least for me. And i'm an "all out" kinda guy, my last gfx purchase was the 660ti's, no questions asked back then. It turns out that I'm getting the deposit back on the flat, so next weekend is 780 SLI day for mr NotMeAgain Titan is just stupid btw.
