Hello, I want to share with you guys something a bit less ambitious than my mahogany/steel deskbuild. My intention for a while is to get my whole home office to have a nice theme to it and I didn't find a lamp I liked to I figured I gotta make it myself. Apologies if this is in the wrong part of the forums, if so move me please (Sorry devs). I'll make the lamp out of solid birch. Aka the whole tree lathed into shape. The lamp will be rather large. It will have polished Oxygen resistant steel for everything but the middle of the lamphead and the base. This will also be lathed into shape. It will house a 5 watt dimmable LED and cost less than 200 euros to make or 230 dollars for the yankies. I will stain the wood and give it 12 layers of varnish just like the table and the metal will be polished to 3000 grit sandpaper to get that mirrorfinish I'm in love with Here's a drawing And here's the parts. The outside of the headpiece is already lathed and I just need to finish the inner circle. And there's the metal pieces as well. Actually from a ferry engine axle. It's pretty heavy duty material but I want something that lasts all my life and never rusts so I felt this was a good choice I'll post more in the the coming weeks. And no this doesn't take away from the table build if you are worried about that Cheerio
Possibly sacrilege to say this on a computer forum, but... this looks awesome, and it can't even play Crysis!
Heh, remember that lamp? #itsreadywhenitsready. I never stopped making that one. I'd like to share with you the progress and inform you that it's off to the chromer tommorow! eta to finish 2 weeks. I ended up redesigning and remaking everything 2-4 times except for the on and off button. So it ended up taking some time. That being said I'm kinda happy about it's current state. Pictures below Keep in mind it's not chromed and varnished, so have some mercy! Parts dissassembled and polished up for chrome!
