This one is also good: http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/028/7/8/a_glass_by_bizkitfan-d387mgj.jpg (also Lithium Design)
Cheers Razer, unfortunately that's not mine! That's in my favourites folder, wish it was mine though!!
Those were some really cool renders Mystik. Also really cool clouds SleepStreamer ...what program were you using? C4D?
Woaw, very nice ! I wish days were made of 72h, to have enough time to do everything . This makes me want to model and render again ... but no time
I think he was talking about something like this (but I'm pretty sure I didn't saw any flying trading cards in this video)
Hey guys, does anybody have any info on bulldozer v ray / Maxwell render performance ? i wanted to build an amd system so badly, but its really hard to jusitify now after this release disaster...
Hi there, I have a question for you all. I'm really considering upgrading my computer in order to have decent rendering performances. TBH, last time I made a real render was for my 3D rendering/animation study final project .... back in 2005 (on a AMD 64 3500+ / GeForce 4Ti). So I'm pretty lost right with what to choose since GPGPU is out now. My question is : Fast CPU or multiple GPU (like 4x GTS450 / HD6770 for example) ? Is there any quality difference between CPU and GPU rendered images ? GPU are better than CPU at parallel computing, but GPUs floating point data have lower precision than CPUs ones.
it all depends what renderer you are intending to use. but in my opinion, gpu powered renderer aren't good enough yet to replace the standard cpu renderer. If you are going to use vray, get a good cpu, vray does support gpu rendering but it lowers the quality and there are a lot of unsupported features. But with other render engines i don't really know
Thanks. So a good option would be a dual Xeon / Opteron rig. I keep my HD5870 for display/gaming and I buy another CPU instead of 4x entry level GPU. I'm wondering how BD performs with VRAY / MentalRay. Edit : Would an Intel S5520HCR (€380) + 2x Intel Xeon E5606 (2x €210) be a good choice ? Is there a big difference in rendering time between E5606 (4 cores - 4 threads) and E5620 (4 cores - 8 threads) ? I'm asking that because E5606 retales at €210 (vs €370 for the E5620). Is twice the price meaning twice the perf ? Edit : or maybe the Asus Z8PH-D12 SE/QDR
+1 U wont get twice the performance, i think in general u can expect about 25 - 30% performance increase with hyperthreading, but i would really recommend to wait for reliable BD benches ive seem some render related benches which are atleast promising. The xeons are certainly a good option for rendering and ur 5870 already supports the gpu preview from vray for example, but again, maybe wait for the sandy bridge refresh [ Xeon E5-2400 (Sandy Bridge-EN, LGA1356) or Xeon E5-2600 (Sandy Bridge-EP, LGA2011) ]
I wouldnt buy that asus board since it only has one pci-e slot and no sound thing integrated. Maybe wait for intels next generation of cpus ? And yes, you should go for the cpus with HT
Thanks too both of you for your advise. I agree with the wait (at least for BD rendering test). I saw a gorgeous dual opteron board from Asus (KGMH-D16/QDR). They does have the same one with dual Xeon 5500 series They does have the same one with dual Xeon 5500 series (Asus Z8PH-D12 SE/QDR) This could probably mean a scratch build case (another project in mind ) ... meaning that my monolith design could come to life.
