Album of January for me was:

    Man On Fire - OST

This one doesn't really have any of the Nine Inch Nails that was in the movie itself, and gave the soundtrack its punch, which sucks. However, the soundtrack is so varied that basicly it couldn't work with spanish guitars and then hard beats from NIN, so they went with the spanish guitars. The result is a supurb OST, gentle and emotional, and really an enjoyable listen if you're fond of soundtracks.

    Februrary is:

PJ Harvey - Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea

Not really capable of putting into words why I like this yet, I only got it a few days ago, but its a very enjoyable album, so I'll try to get back to this once I can vocalise that feeling.

January: Eric B and Rakim - Paid In Full

Pure, clean, old-skool hip-hop at its finest. lyrics not about having a million hoes and three dozen mansions and boasting about killing people (more rap than hip hop but the lines are becoming blurred). Simple, addictive beats, flowing, smooth basslines and quality rhymes. A must buy.

February: Tyrannosaurus Hives - The Hives

Music with a difference. Defined as garage-punk by some, others simply view it as another dirivative of rock and therefore class it as rock/alternate but this is beyond the point. Screeching guitars, shouted vocals and infectious drum rhythms are what makes The Hives so great. One of the best things to come from Sweden, along with IKEA, great meatballs and CRT-freezing legend Vigfus!

    :)

    EDIT: Added mini-reviews ;)

Because they've gone from a great talented yet unknown band, to a mainstream ****-poor, POS band.

I heard and loved all the old bootlegs but the new "proper" album is utter crap. Lyrics have been altered to more "shocking" but less fitting (to the music). Everything music-wise sounds clinical and touched up, unlike the raw awesomeness of the bootlegs. The music is off-timed and lyrics, unfittingly timed. All-in-all, I think "the industry" killed a potentially great band.

Totally agree..all the chavs in my school love the arctic monkeys now as well. The raw myspace origins sound much better.

I do kinda feel like they are going to the streets, but falling in love with the original and hearing the album doesn't detter me from them.

Don't buy many CD's anymore, so here's my vinyl choices:

    January: Genesis - Trespass

1970 musical genius. Side one is just sublime, with the trio of killer prog tracks 'Looking For Someone', 'White Mountain', and 'Vision Of Angels'. Forget what you think about Genesis, the early Peter Gabriel inspired stuff is just incredible to behold. And it only cost me a mere £1 from a second hand record stall at Tynemouth market (mint condition too).

February: Herb Alpert - Going Places

Totally mental Latin inspired trumpet instrumental music from 1965 that I defy anyone not to want to dance their pants off too. Tracks like 'Spanish Flea', '3rd Man Theme', and 'Tijuana Taxi' are the soundtrack to a Good Time. Again, a £1 bargain in immaculate and original sleeve/cover.

January _ CD : The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Howl.
January _ mp3 : Velvet Undergound with Nico.

February _ Vinyl : Mitch Ryder - All The Real Rockers Come from Detroit.
February _ CD : The Detroit Cobras - Baby.
    February _ mp3 : The Flamin' Groovies - Flamingo.

regardless of who likes them or not, i think the arctic monkeys are fantastic and deserve everything they get.
i also think that the ordinary boys album 'brassbound' is very good too and im listening to that during FEB

You can't like a band and then slate them as soon as they make it big time just because they are now more popular, thats just silly. Clarts. The arctic monkeys are pretty crap live though :p

Jan: The Kooks - Inside in Inside out
Feb: Been listening to allot of little man tate / milburn but they don't have albums yet :(
