Hi, hope someone can help. I'm new to the electronics side of modding. I have 4 Fans which have variable speed controls.

I want to extend the wires ( which I've already read how to do), however can I change the switches that controls the speed
with a different type (like this) so I can mount the controls on the front of my case.

I also read somewhere on the forums that I would have problems connecting these fans through a controller as they had speed
    control switches already attached.

As I'm new to this side of things ( i'm still on the 3rd chapter of "Starting Electronics" a book i got from Maplins)
I didn't want to ruin my fans. so I thought it best to ask for advice.

    I hope someone can help.

According to the Bit-Tech review, you can replace the little speed preset pot with a 20k (or 22k) linear potentiometer, Maplin JM72P or VP96E fit the bill. Your preset should have a value on it, check it's no different.
