I'm excited about the upcoming cards for the following reason only - when they come I can make an informed purchase!

I've held of getting a 2060 recently as I didn't want it to be surplanted only a few months later. Obviously if this range comes in at eyewatering money (likely!) I can still go back and buy a 2060.

Hate you so much. :D I actually thought this after I posted, then decided that since it's everyones last kidney, the other one was spent on the 2080Ti, then it'd go for a premium :p

My plan is to inseminate the Wife tonight, and then i know i will be able to harvest another kidney if the one i have left fails following my purchase contractual terms.

That explains a lot then - I thought she was shouting at the kids to go to bed.

While a 30% performance increase is enough to make me throw out the 2080TI at the same time I kind of got to moan...

Just another 30% is no where near enough to take full advantage of all those £1k+ Monitors that support stuff like 3440x1440 200hz, 3840x1600 144hz, 3840x2160 144hz, 5120x1440 240hz. (no, I don't care about CS:Go on low).

I feel there's two segments here
    1) people like me who see these things like super expensive hypercars, and thus don't really pay attention to them cause they might as well don't exist
    2) people that are into having the hypercar experience, look at the performance and go meh

Course there's always people that have to have the best of the best when it comes out so not including those individual's is this really where nvidia wants to be, between "might as well not exist, and meh"?

I look at them and think, that's an interesting piece of tech but it's overpriced and will drag up the price of all the other cards, of which some I might be interested in possibly purchasing at some point maybe.

It's not that far from the percentage difference between 1080ti and 2080ti though is it? And presumably without the 3x cost multiplier again?

You don't need to pay attention but to follow your hyper car analogy, the tech tends to trickle down to us mere mortals eventually.

Considering the game with the highest graphical fidelity (Shadow of the Tomb Raider) averages around 60 - 70 FPS at 4K on a 2080TI a 30% performance increase wouldn't be enough for that.

I already do 4k60 with a 1080Ti but not as consistent as I would like, two cards were regularly 100+ I thought 2080Ti = 2x 1080Ti for high res, fingers crossed it'll be good enough, I'm itching for an upgrade my 1080Ti is broken and only using 4 lanes at present so not as good as it used to be despite clocks as its lacking the PCIe bandwidth, can' still hold is own mind you.

Yeah some games certainly run fine, in F1 2019 for example I can turn the eye candy up until the options have nothing left to give and it still runs like a peach.

But the sheer scale of the brute force required for some others *cough* Assasin's Grind Odyssey *cough* to overcome the lazy coding puts Nvidia into a tough spot as such games make any new GPU look like a lame duck from a decade ago.

It's hardly a surprise is it?

IIRC the 780Ti was around 30% faster than the 680, the 980Ti was around 30% faster than the 780Ti, the 1080Ti was around 30% faster than the 980Ti and the 2080Ti was around 30% faster than the 1080Ti.

Might be a couple of percent out on each generation but what I would like to see is actually a performance increase that cannot be predicted so easily, make the 3080 30% faster than the 2080Ti instead of the usual 5%, and then make the 3080Ti 70% faster than the 2080Ti.

Yes I know it's not that simple, but nVidia have been doing what Intel have done with the CPU's for years and just doing the same performance increase each time.

We really need AMD to start actually putting out high end cards that can compete, maybe then we will see nVidia actually increase performance by more than 30%.

It's sad to see the prices have risen so high we are cracking kidney jokes.

Just this week, I found my Nov 2014 recept for my GTX 970, bought it for £250, that was just a few months after it was released.
Currently RTX 2060 Super is asking £400. RTX 2070 launched at more than that, close to £500? How did they manage to doubled the price over just 2 generations?
