News Herman Miller reveals gaming-focussed chair and desk

Ignoring the price, they look much nicer than the racing chair I was expecting.

 

Looks like some of the bog standard desk's they rented for the office I work in

 

Needs more RGBs. All of them.

 

I guess H-M figured that if others could sell overpriced aftermarket car seats on cheap swivel bases to gamers, they could sell not-$#!& chairs to them at RRP too.

Looks like these are just a specific colourway of their office gear, which is a good thing: you could likely take one of these chairs/desks and use it as a bludgeon to break a 'gamer' chair/desk into splinters, and still have it work serviceably for a few decades afterwards.

That desk is insanely over priced! $1300 and no memory settings? And only 90kg load? Thats awful! And $1400 for a chair only in cyan? How the other half live huh?

 

No headrest? what is this, a chair for peasants?

 

The chair is available in a huge variety of customisable colours and finishes if you forego the l33t gamer co-branding.

 

They are not ripping people off on the Embody because it's a "gamer's" version. The standard version starts at $1495 in the US, before any discount and there is the 12 year warranty.

 

Headrests are for wimps.

 

disagree i got an after market headrest for my aeron tho i dont play games beyond 1 am anymore more but the head rest does come in handy when i used to fall a sleep on it

 

But what about the copper infused seat... -_-

 

If the chair arrives fully assembled, then probably $200 of that price is shipping.

 

The wife and I both have Herman Miller chairs and they were both delivered fully assembled.

 

The Aeron I was forced to use at work was the most uncomfortable piece of overpriced tat I have ever sat in. The chiropractor bills that ensued cost more than the chair. And yes, it was set up according to guidelines.

 

You were expecting a racing chair from Herman Miller?

 

I've said it before here, no one chair will suit everyone. As for me, my Aeron is by far the best chair I have ever had and @Gareth Halfacree would agree. Finding the right chair for you is always the hard part.

 

Whilst I'm not sure I'd go for "overpriced tat", I found the Aeron wasn't suited my particular posterior either. In spite of it being hailed as the best thing since bread of any kind, it's not necessarily suited to everyone, nor is any chair.

Extended road-testing is the only way to actually tell - I found comfort between the Sayl and Embody were both excellent and surpassed every other chair I tried, so chose the Sayl on account of it being 1/2 the price.

 

The one thing almost everyone seems to miss is that specialised task chairs and gaming chairs are two entirely different things. The former attempts to aid posture whilst sitting upright at a desk, and the latter just has to be comfortable whilst slouching.

The trick is finding a task chair that is acceptable for gaming, or vice versa.

 

You could drop a grand on a Herman Miller and slouch in it, and you might as well buy a £30 Argos special.

They aid correct posture, they don't do it for you
