I'm not sure there's this 'proven demand' for adult games that they think there is. By and large, they're embarrassing, tacky crap. Only Kana: Little Sister actually has merits, from the few I've attempted to play, and that game wouldn't have lost anything by losing its adult elements. I'm not convinced an adult game can ever be good - either as a game, a broader storytelling device, or just as porn. So I really hope the 'floodgates' don't open
The thing is, why is explicit drug use termed as 'for adults only'? Does every adult have a stash of cocaine or something? Is the whole adult population of the world addled on a mind-bending concoction of drugs?
lol, odd... The depiction of drug use is for adults only (even in movies) since it can be too suggestive for minors. I mean, if a 12 year old sees an R rated movie where a character gets high and then has a blast of a time, he might be influenced to see drug use as a positive thing.
The problem is that any game which goes out of its way to be "an adult game" loses all credibility immediately. If you're making a game with adult elements, fine. If you're making a piece of adult entertainment, fine. If you're making a piece of adult entertainment with game bits put in then...well, what's the point? The market for these adult games is therefore limited to people who don't realise this - namely twelve year old boys who need to legitimise their desires to themselves.
I guess this is good? I mean, if they can make money, and keep the kidders away I suppose this a good thing. However, as well know this will likely only lead to innovations by other people to bypass.
