    Wasn't it a "Panasonic" Gamecube that played dvd's? My mate had one when I worked out there 2002/4. It was a Gamecube that also happened to play dvd's which the Nintendo Gamecube didn't. I think it was only available in Japan though.

    The Gamecube/dvd player was Panasonic (the Q). It was basically still a Gamecube though. The Philips CDi was a very different beast: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philips_CD-i
