Right, I'm trying to get Open Office to work, I've installed X11 off the install CD and every time I got to run open office it tells me that X11 is still missing.

Anyone ever had a similar problem or found a solution?

    Thanks

Cool - thanks. I didn't know about this. Am downloading it now.
(I have an ms office license, but I'll check this out.)

I used to use Neo Office a while ago, my experiences with it were that it was rather crash happy. The latest build seems a lot more stable.

The user experience for open office on mac sucks bad - if neooffic is better, I'll be willing to play with it for a while.

I've also heard that star office is worth checking out. Has anyone run star office on their mac? Thoughts?

Isn't StarOffice just paid for OpenOffice? I remember at one point they used to be the same.

Same roots, but supposedly the UI is better and it's more stable. But yeah - it's paid for open office. Thing is, it's like $25 instead of $400. I'm willing to pay that much.

anyone know anything capable of that other than excel on parallels?

Well, there's Excel for Mac, of course. Much better than the Windows version in Parallels IMHO. Google spreadsheets might work for you, although then again if it's work stuff, they might not care for you to upload your data to Google.

Honestly, I've been fairly content with Office for Mac 04 (08 is due the second half of this year, I think) - none of the free/cheap/open alternatives have really worked too well for me.

And yes, I've had that same X11 problem every time I tried. I'd wager that it's some Intel mac thing, but your guess is as good as mine tbh.
