Really nice work. Im amazed about how quick you did it.
Regarding the heatpipe cutting, there was some liquid in your pipe but it's such a small amount that you probably didn't notice it before it had time to evaporate.

It looks like on the pics that you had the harware mounted while "destroying" the case. Im not shure you did but incase: be carefull of small scraps and dusts of metall shortening the hardware. I usualy try to only bring out the hardware for quick testfits but I still end up with metallchips on the pcbs.

Thanks mate, it´s possible yes but it wouldnt explain why the temps only went up by 3c, regardless, if you keep reading the last few updates, you´ll notice I ended up changing it for another exactly the same heatsink (bought 2x1) with all it´s pipes (modded the 775 socket adaptor that came with it in order to be able to mount it with the pipes point up and down as opposed to the sides.

About the second bit, oh god no, the case "destroying" was done with no hardware inside, I´d never risk doing any structural modding of any sort or painting for that matter with any hardware inside. The original picks with hw inside where merely to get measurements as to where the cuts would be done and how I would mount everything in it ; )

 

you should try and mount the keyboard on the case like a terminal in fallout

I think the reson for your temps not increasing so much was because you only destroyed one out of 6 pipes. And the one you cut was also the one furthest away from the heatsource. The cooler was simply good enough for your setup even without the 6th pipe.

I do feel quite dumb not realising at the beggining that with a simply reduction in the socket adtaptor (sanding it where it actually grabs on to the cooler) would be enough to shift it enough in order to mount it a different way but oh well. The cooler with the missing pipe is now mounting on my homeserver with a fan, as it was just running a stock amd cooler (it runas an AM2 4200+ X2) and it´s reduced it´s temps by 10c! (the amd stock coolers are quite crappy, or at least they where when the AM2 where out).

It´s ok, I really should´ve taken a pick of it with a longer explanation of what I do, but since it was part of one of the final posts with other more important stuff going on, I didnt give it much image and text real state.
