    Ok, lets get straight to the point:
    I am upgrading my fathers pc for him; adding an ssd and wifi card which have completed with only one problem:
    in the bios there is not enough options within the boot sequence for the ssd to fit in, there is only floppy drive, cd rom and ide drive which are locked. I have to boot through advanced boot sequence every single time!

    Any help is appreciated! (his computer is a dell dimension 46000 :D :D :D :D

    How can there be no option to choose an SATA boot device? Must be in there somewhere!

    boot sequence in bios:
    "1.hard-disk drive c;
    2.Floppy device
    3. IDE CD-Rom device"
    I have swapped sata connectors but it replies with "NTLDR is missing", trust me have swapped everything and configured the bios but as there is so little options I have to enter the boot menu every time!
    Thanks

    Is the ssd the only hard drive in the pc? If not there is probably another menu for hard drive order specifically in the bios.

    No there is a separate sata hdd, Ive just found out that xp set the ssd to D:/ so that it doesn't boot to C:/ as it does not exist i am trying to change the boot letter!

    I would advise to just disconnect hdd, make sure that ssd is on port0 of the sata controller and re install. Once install is finished reconnect the hard drive. It's pretty much impossible to change the drive letter of the boot device without breaking everything. Also having only the ssd connect during install ensure the boot files are put on the correct drive.

    Ok thanks to everyone, i have fixed the problem. In the end it turned out that when reinstalled windows xp onto the ssd the drive letter was D:/ instead of C:/ so I simply reinstalled it again and it booted normally! RELIEF!
    Thanks

    Might be worth looking for threads about running an SSD on XP. I'm sure I've read of some optimisation tweaks being useful.
