    Hi guys,

I need a bit of help finding a good FPS.

Right now I'm still playing Quake 3 mainly Capture the Flag becuase it's pretty quick and just fun. I used to play alot of CounterStrike as well but when Source came out I just faded away from it. Battlefield 2 was alright...but found a lot of 'newbs' playing and just wasn't fun for me in the end.

Gave Unreal Tournament 3 beta demo a go and that felt sluggish to be honest. Didn't like the fact that the only two effective guns that "I" found were the gatling gun and sniper rifle (I love the sniping class), everything else just seemed slow and inaccurate.

So what can you guys recommend for me? I need something which is either fast and frantic like Quake 3 or has a good base player skill (or perhaps a known couple of servers where the skill level is quite high).

    Thanks.

I would try Call of Duty 4. Awesome FPS and the multiplayer is great. For a speedier more light hearted online FPS then go for Team Fortress 2.

TF2 - you can drop in and out and if you buy the full orange box then it comes with Ep 2 and Portal, covering all your tastes for the next month at least.

You could give Painkiller a try.

No - you couldn't. If you wanted that type of game then Serious Sam is a much better bet. Awesome Co-op too.

    TF2 ++
I enjoy ET:QW just haven't had much time to play, mainly because i've been playing TF2, but if the cartoony graphics don't appeal QW is a good bet.

Agreed, Serious Sam is great. However Painkiller offers a very different atmosphere to SS which (some) people prefer.

Team Fortress 2 is pure class. Especially if you've ever played a previous iteration of Team Fortress, such as TFC or Quake 3 Fortress. Some of the most fun I've ever had online has been on TF2 in the past 2 weeks.

cod4 is fun, but it takes time to get all the guns, which is kinda annoying if you're just casually playing

Cheers for the suggestions. Never tried the CoD series but will give number 4 a look at.

    TF2 sounds appealing as well.

I shall give them a looksie. Any servers where the bit-tech crowd hang about?

Serious Sam. You don't seem willing to learn the entire backstory of some game world before playing.

If you want something like quake III, try UnrealTournament 99 G.O.T.Y., its an old game but it still owns lots of new FPS's out there in multiplayer.
But if you're looking for a awesome singleplayer game, you cant miss Half-Life. take care

Sorry...forgot to mention that I'm looking for a multiplayer game. Singleplayers I'll just pick up when I've got time...but for me...mulitplayer is where it's at and where I spend most of my free time.

    Enemy Territory possibly.

It still has some decent servers around, it's not like it used to be, but it's still pretty good.

And before you play it, download a decent config, or atleast do these settings.

    cg_fov 105
    com_maxfps 125
    sensitivity 2
    ...

Lol, just download a decent cfg, one where it removes blood when ur hit etc.

INSURGENCY! For a beta it's doing really well in my opinion. Most servers play very tactically using voice control, very immersive.

AND, it's free! as long as you have any ONE of the source games installed.
