System specs: AMD Sempron 2800+ 90nm skt 754 (using reference cooler) ASUS K8U-X motherboard Kingston 512Mb PC3200 RAM nVidia AGP 8.0 slot GeForce 64Mb MX440 (recognised as MX4000 by OS) 30Gb hard drive Cool Technology 350W PSU 32x CD ReWriter drive Windows XP Professional I'm using my onboard codec and audio connectors to connect up my Labtec Pulse 385 2.1 surround sound speakers. But for some odd reason, Windows XP is not recognising any sound device and I can't get Volume Control to run, but when I turn on the speakers, I can hear vibration going through the speakers which means it must be working but my operating system (Windows XP) is not recognising any sound device whatsoever. I think the problem could have something to do with the onboard sound codec or mini jack connectors. I've got AC'97, which is the audio codec of my chipset enabled in the BIOS. So what seems to be the problem? Any ideas, anyone? Please help .
I know this sounds daft but have you installed the sound drivers off your motherboard disk, I had the same problem until I realised that XP doesn't install them automatically.
Wow, now I feel like an idiot lol. I thought Windows XP would have generic drivers for the sound... wouldn't they?
Not always, when ever I reinstall xp on mine or the missus pc I've always got to install the sound drivers seperatley, where both using onboard sound at the moment.
OK thanks for your help Cerberus. I've installed the drivers for the onboard sound device; it's working fine and I'm able to adjust all the settings. BUT, there's no sound coming from the speakers. I've checked to see if any of the volumes are muted, but they weren't. Could anyone tell me why this is ?
