Why on the chart you compare the pre-overclocked and custom cooled 1060 against the stock with blower 480?

Anyhow, I bought a Armor OC 1080 for my bday (weak moment) two months ago, watercooled it, clocked it to 2190 and waiting for Vega next year :) It chews and spits everything.
Hell my old 295X2 looks ancient and slow against it.

The 1080 replaced a watercooled Nano. And the difference in performance is big between FuryX @1140 (Nano) and 1080 @ 2190.

I don't think the performance improvement is worth the swap out of a 970 to a 1060. As cool as some of the performance of the 10XX generation is I think I'm going to keep playing with my 970 and wait for the generation after Pascal. I'm not ready to drop another $300 on a card yet.

I second this. I went from a GTX 560 Ti to an ASUS Strix 970 and moved to a 144 Hz monitor (still 1080p, I'm still amazed at how much better the increase in frames makes things so much better.)
1060 isn't going to be THAT kind of an upgrade.

Eh, I've kind of got used to the price hikes. Sadly, I need CUDA (which is a serious reason why nVidia cards cost so much more) or I'd entertain the idea of AMD cards much more. If AMD could write a CUDA wrapper (or anyone, for that matter - I know there was one by a third party, but it kind of sank without trace after the initial announcement) even with a performance penalty, I'd be interested as it improves options.

970 was a bit of a one off cheap card as far as Nvidia was concerned - perhaps $50 cheaper then they needed to price it. The last card that did that before then was the 8800GT.
What has struck me recently is how well the cards have maintained their prices - I bought a 970 (o/c) for about £260 on release, they were still about that price up to the release of the 1060. This compares to say a 260 which started off quite pricey but fairly quickly dropped to about £150 at which point they were really good value (I got a 260 216 version and you couldn't really beat it on a cost : performance ratio for about 2 years).

It's not (mostly) the pound. The last sentence is the point, AMD is not competitive (partly due to GameWorks &c.) so sells us more processor for our money just because of not being able to charge a huge premium for its top parts and drag up the prices further down its stack.

    LOL?

AMD RX 460 is equal if not faster than the GTX 1050 - which is more expensive
the RX 470 matches the very much more expensive GTX 1060 (top end msi rx 470 is £220 - the top end evga gtx 1060 is £290) , the bottom end cards , AMD are still £20 cheaper - and that's for the core reduced 3gb card

People are arguing with logic for AMD but buying with there wallet a nvidia card. How does that work again.

Buy the best you can afford without regrets every 2-3 years and you will never be far away from the bleeding edge is some advice I tend to follow now.

The top end is high priced now, but a 1050ti or a amd rx 460 will do 1080p with high or above in most games.

The Horse has not just left the stables its left the planet at this stage. Been a UK resident I would also expect some nice price hikes, We are approaching a £-$ equal point.

It seems it's only as quick as a 960. What's the point in going from a 950 to 960 performance? not worth £150.

Ah well, it sucks but what can you do? AMD cards are crap for Linux so I guess 950 it is.

Depends what you want it for, it's Tiny card so will fit in some ultra small living room builds.

Most low end cards do that now dude. I'm just sorely disappointed by the performance. I expected it to at least be close to the 470 but it gets its rear end handed to it in every test. There's an enormous gap between the 1050ti (TI my ass) and 1060. It's almost like a token release, rather than a proper one.

Save up more, NEVER settle for poor GPUs.

Additionally, if you have kids, you can explain to them that they only need one kidney each, and those go for 50,000 euros each (convert that into that pathetic boutique currency you Ukkers use)

The formula should be whatever your car costs, divided by 5 is the amount spent on graphics and monitors. I have a BMW 7 series, so I need to get more monitors, lol!

I'm going to hold off buying the Pascal, don't see the point. With the weak pound and my 2x 980Ti I'm good for a while. Let's hope the brexit falls through and the pound regain its strength by the time the future generation cards would be worth it.

GTX 1050Ti is within £40 of the much faster GTX 1060......
