i wanna new one coz im using the AC97 onboard thingy on my mobo... ive got a choice of - Creative Soundblaster Live! 5.1 - OEM 9 (£30 ish) Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II - Retail (£38 ish) Videologic Sonic Fury 6-channel DSP - OEM (£45 ish) cant decide really. i wont have a problem with a creative card as my mobo doesnt have the problems with the via things - u know what i mean on the tech page for the fortismo, it says it only supports 98/2000/me, will it work with XP?
they will bring out some drivers for XP ... most probably already have.... I havn't used a Sound Blaster 5.1 but I did have a 1024 which I found was rubbish, mainly because of their poor quality software. Is it just me or does all creative software and drivers seem like they were made in the 1980's?? I Currently run a Sonic Fury and I am quite happy with it, the software and drivers are very good and easy to change the options.... plus (im not sure if the SB has this but) the Sonic Fury has 3 outputs front rear and versa. the versa can be used as digital out, analogue out or even line in .... whateva u want..... Very versitile...... You wont be disapointed with the Sonic Fury imo
yer get the sonic fury. Ive got a SB Live and its crap I bloody hate Live Ware and the drivers suck too.
What speakers are you going to be using? The Sonic Fury is supposed to be a very good card - I've heard many good things said. I have an SB Live! player 5.1 (£28ish from scan) and I think it's very nice (I don't use it for anything other than games/mp3s and movies so I can't say I ever use the 80's style drivers spike refers to) - and it is 2/3 the price of sonic fury and sound quality (with my dtt2200's al least) is very good. As for XP drivers... well creative is supposed to releasing them very soon, though the XP standard drivers work fine (but don't play mp3's from four speakers when in windows, 'tis annoying). Ok, hope I helped, cheers, r.
well, when i chose my speakers i didnt want a 4 speaker set and a sub, so i bought the best 2 speaker and sub combo - a cambridge MicroWorks set, which is a 45w sub and two 13w satellites. therefore i dont need a 5.1 sound card....
I disagree, I've got a Soundblaster 5.1 OEM and think it's actually pretty good if you can get it for a cut down price.
thanks guys, i think i'll either get a fortissmo or the sonic fury. one of my friends is getting a fortissmo, so i'll decide after ive seen his card
Do those work ok for you? Those are the ones that I have, and im not that impressed. Cheers for the link tho. RTT - Get a SonicFury
this is the driver i downloaded - sc_4112.zip 20436403 09-07-01 WINDOWS 2000, XP | WDM drivers v.4112 it works fine...for me anyway...
Will do, thanks for the advice mate, I hope I can get my lovely sound card going as good as it once was now. I just need some speakers...
i got a sound balster live (value) the only things i have wrong with the sb live is 1) my mic is too quiret and the +20 db gain is on and the mic voloum is at max 2) the distortion when i have my sound card voloum up aboth 1.2 way !
