    In no particular order

Half Life 2 Series (on my second play through of HL2 this week after doing the series for the first time)
    STALKER SoC (Complete, Oblivion Lost)
Galactic Civilisations II + Add Ons
    FEAR
    GRID

Also Playing Max Payne 2 at the moment, then I've got Deus Ex, Hitman Contracts, and STALKER CoP, so while Max Payne 2 wont knock anything off my list, maybe FEAR and Grid will go, to be replaced by Deus Ex and Hitman Contracts if what I've heard about them turns out to be true.

FEAR and STALKER SoC were the first two games I played on my first self built PC, after being a consolite for far too long. Now it's PC only, and I'll never look back having recently completed my second self build.

    In no particular order:

    1) EverQuest - the daddy of MMORPG's, in my opinion at least. Not just because it was the forerunner but because it did so many things better than even WoW.

    2) GTA 4 - I didn't actually enjoy it all that much because I've played all the GTA games since the old days with the 2d versions, but I have to mention it because it was technically so impressive. The graphics amazed me, and the sound and music and gameplay was all very good too. Great music and voice acting and production values through the roof. It's also a pretty big game so good value. I gotta give them credit for all that...

    3) Unreal Tournament 2004 - It was just such an amazing FPS. It's the first time I experienced bots that I could mistake for real people. It spiced up the same old tired FPS formula by adding lots of different game modes, and it's the first time I played with vehicles in a FPS that were actually fun and fast and smooth and controlled well. It looked great, played great, was popular, and the longevity makes it the best value game I have ever seen. For a one off price I ended up playing it online for probably an entire year or more... often. It doesn't really get much better value than that.

    4) Command & Conquer - Tiberian Sun - although pretty old now, it's still to this day, the best RTS on the market (in my opinion). It's also very unique, because even compared to other games in the series, it has so many unique features and plays quite a lot differently.

    5) System Shock 1/2 - I won't go too much in to why this is special or I will get carried away and type too much, but this is probably the best set of games I've ever played. It was SO far ahead of the competition it's astounding.

    Honourable mentions:

Quake - because it really pushed things forward and helped bring in the internet age, and it had such good longevity thanks to how modable it was.

Trackmania Nations - it's free, download it right now and see for yourself why it's so special :)

Baldur's Gate series - probably the best RPG's I've ever played. Still.

Syndicate, Eye of the Beholder 2, Prince of Persia, Monkey Island, Police Quest, Elite, Jagged Alliance, etc.

Nice! I thought I was the only one who loved that game. Actually my friends liked it too but me especially. I was very disappointed to find that it wasn't hugely popular. I hope it was at least popular enough that they will make a sequel some day.

Um...your top five PC games would imply games that you actually like :thumb: not ones that you merely acknowledge as being technologically (or otherwise) impressive.

Well I'm geeky enough that I can enjoy the technicality of it, even if I'm not that impressed with the gameplay. :p

But if it had to be ones that I enjoyed playing, then I would replace it with Baldurs' Gate 2.

Sadly there isn't enough slots in this contest.

STALKER deserves a mention as does Age of Mythology. As for JE, I loved it since it was KOTOR with a bit more polish and Kung Fu.

Plus Death's Hand was the most legit guy ever.

These change, depending on what mood I'm in!

    1) Half-Life: Amazing. Still fun playing it now but at time of release was just incredible.

    2) Homeworld: Very, very beautiful game that even now has an elegance to it.

    3) Stalker Series: I've yet to play CoP but the gameplay is very gritty and real. Drink a bottle of Vodka at the same time for that 'oh sh!t I'm in Russia' feeling.

    4) Star Wars Republic Commando: An oft overlooked gem, in no other game do you get the same feeling of being part of an elite squad.

    5) Alien Shooter 2: Old Skool badassness with a bajizillion enemies per level, this is a 'Game For Real Men'TM.

    Honorable Mentions:

Crysis: For being so goddamn good looking.

Fallout 3: Epically huge and fun.

    Homeworld 2: Because it's Homeworld.

Wing Commander Prophecy: My first 3D accelerated game - sweet.

    Red Alert: Ahh, the memories!

Homeworld and the whole series there is still what I consider to be one of the BEST RTS games ever made. And you're right on the UI barndoor101, absolutely brilliant design.

My top 5 would have to go something like this: -

    1. LOTRO (only because I have kept coming back to it time and time again over the years)
    2. Battlefield 2
    3. Guild Wars
    4. Battlefield Bad Company 2
    5. Company of Heroes

PC Gamers forever :) Nice lists.

That was one epic list! Some of those games are some of my all time favourites!

If you would still like to play them, there are some modern ones around, although they are hard to find. There was a popular series called "Syberia" which was really good, and there is apparently a new sequel due very soon. This year I think. I will get it for sure.

Just incase you didn't know this, but the first Monkey Island game has been re-released recently with modern graphics and voice and music! It actually lets you press a button and it seemlessly switches back and forward from the original game from the MS-DOS days, to the new version. It's the exact same gameplay as the original but it just looks far better now.

They are also doing the same for Monkey Island 2, and that is due sometime this year.

LIES! That crown belong to Ultima Online. The REAL first MMORPG. Term wich btw was created by Richard Garriot, the man behind the ultima series. Before that all we had was MUDs and a multiplayer version of Neverwinter Nights. NVN is actually one of my favourite RPGs. Unfortunatelly not in the top 5, but a close match.

[edit]Looks like the first massive multiplayer online RPG was a game by the name of Meridian 59. BUT the term MMORPG still is credited to Richard Garriot[/edit]

And to think Richard sunked his career behind some south korean RPG... I really miss Origin Systems...

"We create worlds"... God! That brings me tears... Now we have to bear with some crappy Bethesda.

Thank God we still have Bioware!

    About the monkey Island Remake:
Yes I know that :D But as I didn't cared to play back in the time it just doesn't feel right to play now.
But I will look for that Syberia you talk about. Heard that name before... Are you sure it doesn't have at least like 5 years old?
    Thanks for the tips

[edit]I was confusing it with Cyberia (with C)[/edit]

BTW, don't get angry about the capital LIES, ok :thumb:

whenever i think of Origin I always shed a tear of nostalgia for Crusader: No Remose, I used to genuinly smile when I'd walk in the bar and see Weasel sitting at his favourite table

    Ooooo Crusader!
No remorse and no regret! I used to love both! Did you know that if you play No regret at christmas time there was a special score for it? Games were full of easter eggs back them

No regret intro. No mo-caps back then.

And not to forget Wing Commander:

Can you imagine how terrifying was ultima underworld wich came out BEFORE castle wolfenstein?

You could jump, swim had some diferent kinds of attacks with your sword...

    BTW, great recall

That reminds me of Battle Isle 4: Incubation. Not the same style, but still a great game.
