Same have never seen the fancy stuff only tint solid colour or transparent. Can you get marble affect?
Wow, I've always been a fan of brushed aluminium, but this looks pretty amazing. I wonder what brushed acrylic would look like? Or would it just end up looking like scratched acrylic?
Cant remenber seeing one myself, but would think that you can get it ... But you can get something very close to chameleon paint that changes color, have been using it a couple of times. Maybe next week I can show some testing, hope to get more time ...
Does that sparkle acrylic have the metalic flake all thoughout it? Can you cut/machine it and then flame polish the edges to get the appearance back? If you cant flame polish it, can you sand it (i.e. 500 grit, 1k grit, 2k grit, polish) to get it looking shiny again?
Fonne, you are one hell of a tease. From looking in this thread and doing some googling I'd love to do a custom case in either a frosted or pearlescent acrylic.
@Andy - I tried that road once too. Suppliers either want you to buy several full sheets, or don't reply at all.
I'm thinking of getting some matte white 5mm soon to make a backplate with, I'm getting a piece of chrome laser for over the top so sparkly white could be amazing. @Cheapskate there are places that do it but not necessarily the range http://www.cutplasticsheeting.co.uk/
Only the top layer got the sparkle effect - You can always polish acrylic after machine/cut to make it shiny again - But sometimes it can be a lot af work :-D Thats right, some have a pretty decent range, but the most custom ones you need to buy in full sheets - Almost always. Right now I am fightning go get some very special acrylic (Not shown here) - Found it one place in Germany, but the will only sell me a 2000x3000mm sheets = Cost $$$$$$$$
There are plenty of places that sell all sorts of acrylic Very few of them will do less than a full sheet though.
Yes, that's the problem with most acrylic suppliers -- they want you to purchase an entire sheet which usually runs a couple hundred dollars or more, and that's exclusive of shipping. I guess they can't be bothered marketing offcuts or scrap in smaller sizes for hobbyists, but it sure would be wonderful. Loving the variety in color and design.
My local supplier( Regal Plastics in Oklahoma City) has stopped carrying anything but clear sheet and tubes any thicker than 1/4" wall in stock. Although I can buy sheet by the square foot with no minimum as long as it's in stock.
Its really hard to make a decent profit, on selling this "custom" acrylic in smaller sizes. The assortment that i have showed will cost a fortune to have in stock, and how big is the marked really ? 50% or more would newer be sold, and many sheet would be standing with smaller cut outs .. If people could get together and share a full sheets of 1-2 colors, that would be more realistic - Some of the sheets that i have shown really cost $$$$ ....
It might be worth it for across the bond to get together and make a group buy locally. Then have it cut and sent to everyone who ordered it. what's the most expensive one you have shown?
The clear 40mm is really some expensive stuff, but dont have all the prices on hand .. The 5mm black/glitter cost around 75 $ per square meter (1 Sheets = 450 $)
Is there such a thing as scratch resistant (or even scratch proof) acrylic finishes? That got to be my number one peeve regards acrylic, I never have problems with alu sheet!
