    can see NVidia quietly nuking support for the early Fermi cards as well now tbh

    Don't they effectively do that as soon as a new iteration is released anyway?

    I've used older cards for generations after and the drivers support has been just fine - for example take the most recent nvidia driver (WHQL) 359.00 - this provides support for the GeForce GT 420 all the way up to the more recent GTX TITAN X & GTX 980 Ti

    how far back do people expect manufacturers to keep supporting their hardware, fyi fermi was first introduced in April 2010, so fermi is over 5 and a half years old

    Oh, you took my meaning literally.
    I should've added a '/s' in there...

    I more meant that Nvidia only produce technologies that are advantageous to the here and now.
    Hairworks, a complete shambles on anything but the latest cards is just one example.
    Gameworks as a whole? I just won't go there...

    I'm surprised they supported them this long. Nvidia gave up on their 5 series cards some time ago and they are of a similar age.
