Case Mod - In Progress Big Lian Li. 100% Complete. FINAL PICS.

Worked on mostly boring things today. Added a few cable management standoffs to clean up a few of the wires as I didn't like the look of them. Also added a bunch more rivets to the back panel for better fit. Will not post pics of either since no one wants to see rivets. I did however do this. I was damn near pulling my hair in frustration as EK seriously messed up and put the mounting holes behind the pump body.

 

Threw in some of the hardware to make sure everything fits and to get a few last measurements.




Decided to patch over the back panel rivets. As well as repair one of the corners that I humped up when nibbling.

And I will toss in a few photos of my recently completed ESXi server. Took it out for a stroll in the country.

everything about this build is so clean and precise! makes it look like a sterile environment (in a good way)

 

Went on vacation. Then other builds got in the way. But I am going to try to finish this up soon.


Modified the GTs to fit the 140mm radiator a bit better.


1.Take a stock GT.


2.Heat up the hub of the fan. Use high heat and a lot of it all over to loosen the glue.


3. Pull blades off of GT. Takes a bit of force. Easier if the hub was nice and hot.


4. Cover up the fan motor w/ some painting tape to prevent all the plastic crap from getting inside. Then take a hacksaw to the side of the fan. Do all 4 sides until the two pieces come apart.




5. You'll need to cut a hole for the fan cable to passthrough the 140mm adapter. I screwed the fan together w/ a nut so I made sure to cut the whole at the right spot.




6. Glue the two pieces together. Put the glue around the screw holes on the fan body. Then clamp it together. I used glue instead of screws due to clearance issues.


I am not sure if there is a drop in performance or not but I was still getting sufficient air through the radiator afterward.

Also worked on the backplate a bit more. Have decided to redo a few of the aluminum pieces on the interior that aren't perfectly straight.

100% done w/ the interior I do believe. Should be able to drop it off @ the powder coaters sometime this week.

Thanks. It is something I have thought about ever since I bought those 120mm to 140mm adapters a few years ago. I liked the outcome.


Didn't make it to the powder coaters yet. Monday or Tuesday....

Slightly modified the SR1 to have curved fan mounts versus the straight. The reason why this was done will be shown soon. First we give them a good prime coat.





Fins were painted gloss black. The rest of the radiator will be painted matte black.






Felt like doing a bit of polishing while watching some TV this evening. So I took out the D5 for this build.

 

I finished off the rest of the pump (again) today. I sanded and polished the lip of the pump body. I painted the backside acetal piece of the pump top matte black so it was a more even colour. Was also able to remove the paint off the impeller w/ some mineral spirits.

I didn't like the Koolance reservoir I was using before. So I opted for an XSPC Photon instead. Had to reinstall the reservoir, radiator, and pump again to get proper mounting distances.





I also have dropped the case parts off at the powder coaters. So next pics will no longer be bare aluminum.

 

The case came back from the powder coaters finally. Unfortunately the filler I used doesn't hold up to the heat of their ovens. So it doesn't look as good as I would have hoped. It isn't terrible though so I'll continue using it as is.

 

Cool, I can stalk your build over here too. Great job on those fans / shrouds, that looks really sweet! As does the polished top. Great photos!

Thanks guys. Took my rig down to transfer hardware to the Lian Li. Typing updates from my HTPC is frustrating so updates will be short until the rig is operational.









Had to fix the reset switch.
