    I heard about this on El Reg yesterday. :eyebrow:
    The project is far from its death throws and the issues made public yesterday have been around for a number of years.
    Here's an update for the impatient.

    He's not missing, he lives at the bottom of my garden. I let him live in the shed in return for him mowing the lawn and digging up weeds. Lovely chap, not had a single problem with him, neighbours love him too. I'll not hear a bad word said about him.

    The CentOS homepage ( http://www.centos.org/ ) has an update on this. It looks like all is back on track.

    He got back and everything seems normal now. CentOS is the best my favourite RedHat-based distribution along with Scientific Linux (from CERN).

    It's essentially Red Hat Enterprise Linux, re-badged and released for free.

    The major benefit of this is the support from software companies; Plesk, Asterisk (and many others) are all developed for RHEL in-mind as it's the corporate distribution of choice. CentOS means us cheapskates can get almost the same software development support for free. :)

    Though I would point out that, for a day-to-day desktop user, you're still probably better off with Ubuntu or Fedora.

    The CentOS Development team had a routine meeting today with Lance Davis in attendance. During the meeting a majority of issues were resolved immediately and a working agreement was reached with deadlines for remaining unresolved issues. There should be no impact to any CentOS users going forward.

    The CentOS project is now in control of the CentOS.org and CentOS.info domains and owns all trademarks, materials, and artwork in the CentOS distributions.

    We look forward to working with Lance to quickly complete all the agreed upon issues.
