Description of the original Cray-1 hardware: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cray-1#Description A grand total of ~160 MIPS from the original hardware Suffice it to say that the guts of this scale model will be a tad more powerful. Very nice idea and execution, by the way
That was really interesting ready Brilliant stuff I love how each individual wire was cut to a precise length to stop signal reflection. This is still done today on computer motherboards and high speed circuits. Have a look on your mobo and you'll see some signal lines have squiggly circuitous routes across the PCB.
Just a few things this week. I mounted the HD Brackets to the top of the case. After I aligned them, it was rather straight forward. Here is the top of the case. Here is the underside of the case. This is how they will be mounted. I'll drill the holes for the HDD screws and probably drill the slots in the top so that you don't have to take everything apart to add/remove a drive. Getting towards the end of this thing. Now the question is, what to fill it with??? Enjoy!
Closeout Final Pics Here are the final pics for the Cray-1. Here is the pic with the lights on. Hope you enjoyed it!
Kinda a bump but i have'nt had time to check back on all the projects i've been watching i must say this is truely awesome! and two comments after final picks is'nt enough credit in my eyes Great work man!
No worries. I had fun building it and hope everyone had fun watching it get built. I like the way it came out and what I learned along the way. I have a new appreciation for the real men and women who built the originals. They are true craftsman, engineers and geniuses.
