This news kinda broke way too early for me, but its cool to know. I wonder though if it really is going to be nvidia's first gpu to support gddr5 if thats the case amd will have the market to themselves for awhile.

any numbers on what MHz range GDDR5 has (like 2500MHz - 3300MHz or something)?

edit: I say bring in some XDR2 DRAM and see what that does to graphics performance, running at 8000MHz (yes eight thousand) even if its just a tech demo e-peen thing for the company that tries it.

According to fudzilla the current G200 already support GDDR5 but it is unclear if it will be implemented, but I am sure some partners will.. :)
Maybe D12U will be GDDR5 and upwards only.. ;)

I think the GDDR5 on the 4870 is supposed to be @ 3217Mhz or something silly like that.

Rambus RAM is too expensive and requires a fat bus on the die which is expensive too.

So, this is the D12U - the GTX 2x0 is the D10U. Either the D11U is the 55nm version of D10U or this is very far off.

ahh, I've got it now. perhaps the ps3 could have been cheaper if they ditched XDR ram then. still, it wold be interesting to see as a tech demo as I said earlier (as in 'this is what we could make if we wanted' like the HD 3850 X3)
