Another little problem this week... Dad's Kindle Paperwhite is stuck showing 'Please wait a moment while your Kindle starts up' with the person reading under the tree below it. It's been like that for a couple days despite using the things that I've found on the web: Hold power button down for 7-15 sec - Nope Hold power button down for 45+ / 90 sec - Nope Charge for an hour and try again - Nope The display stays fixed and a yellow light comes on when plugged into a PC or charger It's a 2nd Gen I think - identifying them seems a bit tricky. It says kindle in silvery white in the bezel below the screen, has a glossy inset Amazon logo on the back and a feint grey model number at the bottom on the back of DP75SDI. Not sure what to do next, I've heard mention of opening it up, but even though it's over a year old, I'm not convinced. Any repair, reset advice please??
Amber/yellow light when plugged in means it's charging, if it doesn't go green then it's not fully charged (so could be a charging issue). Try another charger and leave it charging for a good few hours to see if it actually charges
Barring the above I'd get on to Amazon (via live chat or phone) and see what they say, irrespective of the age of it.
They can die. Always worth raising Amazon support on a chat as well. I've had a Kindle replaced for free 3 years after I purchased it
